The musical meme has arrrived! I know I'm ready to mambo, are you?
I'm going to do a few different things this week. So if you're ready, let's get warmed up with a little bit of "musical" I say you think...
tune: a piano, but you can't tune a fish
flute: Ray Thomas and Norda Mullen -- 2 great flautists
note: musical note
gibson: Old Red, Justin Hayward's guitar
baby: grand piano
keyboard: Nick Rhodes
top: of the pops
soul: for hire -- Elvis Costello from When I Was Cruel
center: stage
backup: singer -- like Bernie Barlow
Ok, now that we've warmed up, are you ready to Mambo? Just copy and paste the questions to your blog and get to Mamboing! What are you waiting for?
1. If you could have a career in the music industry, what would it be?
Well I have two. I'll list them as a and b so as not to get everything confuzzled here:
a) I wouldn't mind being a backup singer...like Miss Bernie Barlow, cos then I'd get to stare at the bum of the Hayward many nights a year. I'd also get to siddle up to Lodgey as well. That sounds like a dream job to me...shame I can't sing a note.
b) Since junior high, I've loved musicals, allow me to be the star of the next Lloyd Webber masterpiece, or something like that...oh what a dream! Again, the fact that I can't carry a tune in a bucket just ruins that dream, but it doesn't stop me from singing the part of Eva Peron or Christine Daae when I'm alone in my room!
2. Do you know how to play an instrument? If not, what instrument do you wish you could play?
In junior high, I used to play french horn. Not well, but I used to play it...and the barges on the river would stop, because they thought the fog was coming in. Little animals ran and hid...small children started to cry. I would have been better off learning how to play piano, which was more to my liking.
3. What is your favorite way to enjoy music? ie..concert, tv, mp3 player etc...
It's great to have the cd player blaring as I drive down the road. It's truly a wonderful experience, but next to that a live concert, especially if it's in the Tropicana Casino in Atlantic City....Mmmmm Moody Men...That's my Gemini Dream!
4. What is your favorite genre of music...or era of music or both?
without a doubt Classic Rock...you wouldn't have guessed that would ya? I mean considering my favorite artists are The Moody Blues, The Beatles, The Monkees, Elvis Costello and David Bowie.
If I were to pick a era of music? The 60's. That was a revolutionary time in music. I wish I could have been alive to witness it first hand...from sugary pop to the psychedelic sounds and beyond...the 60's were just spectacular for music.
~sigh~
Once upon a time....in my wildest dreams... I was in search of a lost chord...
Now lastly, here's something fun and different...or maybe not so different.
Describe your favorite band/artist to us in a paragraph and tell us why you like them. If you have a picture to share...show it to us. Tell us as much or as little as you like...just have fun!
My favorite band has changed quite a bit since their beginnings. Denny Laine was once a front man, singing the first single, Go Now. Later when Denny and Clint Warwick departed the band, two new members were brought in as replacements.
Can ya guess who they were?
I bet you can, cos I write about them all the time...
Yup, Justin Hayward and John "Lodgey" Lodge.
The line up of Hayward, Lodge, Thomas, Edge and PInder lasted until the late 70's when Pinder departed the band. Patrick Moraz entered the picture then and stayed on until the late 80's...After he left, the band stayed with just Hayward, Lodge, Thomas and Edge until the summer tour of 2003 when Ray Thomas retired.
The music can be described as progressive...dreamy...well crafted pop. Lovely vocals fill every song...until you are left sighing or singing...
Now for my favorite part....Pictures
1. Original line up of the Moody Blues
2. Moodies before Moraz
with Moraz...but with Ray..absent for some odd reason
3. Current lineup
The MIBs!!
These Moodies are ready to fight , but only if Justin gets to drive!
