How To Cure A Bad Day

It is hot and miserable.

Work is sucking hard right now.

How to make it passably better for a few minutes.

Open a can of Faygo Peach pop.

Pour in some Peach Schnapps.

Drink up.

Suddenly the day doesn't seem so bad!

OK, it does, but the pain of it all is dulled ever so slightly!

Let's hear it for the booze!

A Day In The Life

After yesterday's Cat-astrophe, I decided to take things a bit easier today. I basically did nothing that required me leaving the house, after 10 o'clock.

I went to the grocery store again, to pick up some cheese, so the dog could take his anti-biotic. Can't remember what other things I bought. They must have been really exciting, then I headed of to McDonald's for breakfast.

Can I just say that the Cherry Berry Chiller, or whatever it is called, is really good? I love these new drinks at McDonald's. The coffee may not be Starbucks, but it is good enough for me!

I managed to do the laundry and I made two meals.

I made potato soup for lunch. An easy recipe I found in the Centre Market Cookbook and then I had city chicken for supper with home fries.

Good eats.

I did finish reading one book too.

Not a bad day, and certainly much calmer than yesterday, so I am thankful for that. Now if only tomorrow weren't Monday.

Oh and I managed not to watch any news, so that my head wouldn't explode. Election coverage pisses me off. Actually all political stories make me want to hurl rocks at my tv set. But I think most of you know that by now, right?

This Has Been The Day From Hell

Today started out mostly ok.

I didn't get to sleep in, but I did get 7 hours of blissful sleep.

However when I got home from the grocery store at 3 o'clock my kitty Dewey escaped.

It took 7 hours to get her back and even that was a struggle.

I had to pull her in through the bedroom window!

No joke!

She was wandering about our front porch roof that she got to climbing the honeysuckle bush.

My stress levels are through the roof.

I love that silly cat.

Top 5 On Friday

Top 5 artists you just can't listen to anymore

1. Davy Jones: I just get too sad when his Monkees songs come on right now. Maybe at some point I'll be able to enjoy his voice again, but right now it is too painful to listen to him sing.

2. Semisonic: They weren't one hit wonders, though one might think so. I loved their 3rd album, Chemistry and I played it to death, and no I can't listen to it for anything.

3. Sarah Brightman:  I think I outgrew her voice, or I don't know..but I used to love listening to Dive and Harem, now...eh...

4. Poison: My hair metal days are long behind me.

5. Madonna: Even the old stuff isn't doing it for me anymore, and I used to love Madonna.

Pinterest Anyone?

I'm trying to sort out this new social network picture type site. I received an invite and I thought, why not? I like to waste time on stuff like this.

On a plus it is super fun to hunt down pictures for my boards.

I think I know what I'm going to be wasting my time on this weekend!

If you want to check out my pins...

Have I mentioned how easily amused I am these days?

This Week Sucks

Allow me to elaborate:

I'm broke

My sister's car is broke down in front of our house and her husband hasn't come to fix it. The problem is the damn spark plugs! WTF is the problem here!!!

My nephew's car is also broke down. Apparently it is contagious.

Oh guess who gets to drive the said sister to work?

Yeah, me.

Make this week be over soon. I hate waking up earlier so I can get my usually morning crap done, while driving her to Monongahela.

Sharing Is Good

My sister went to Trax Farms a few weeks ago and bought a bottle of Arrowhead Frank N Berry wine. Oh yeah, the name is puniful!

Heck, the label is rather punny. But after that, there's nothing funny about this wine.

OMG! I could drink the whole bottle.

It is an ice wine.

For any of you that don't know, ice wine = expensive.

This bottle is close to $40.00!

That's insane for a few measly glasses, but it does take me to my happy place, and not many things do that these days.

If you are curious about ice wine, or this one rather, click here .

If I had Mitt Romney's money, I would be a very drunk girl right now!

Oh and can I just say, I'm so glad my sister knows how to share!

Reasons to Watch Non-Network Channels

~ Better shows: In Plain Sight, Psych, True Blood, Eureka, Warehouse 13 etc

~ Better re-runs: MASH, Everybody Loves Raymond, Home Improvement

~ BBC America: Nuff Said...except when they are playing way too much Top Gear!

~ Too Cute and My Cat From Hell: Seriously these are some awesome animal shows!

But the best reason to watch non-network channels..

NO FREAKING POLITICAL ADS!!!!!!!

This rant was brought to you by The Mistress of The Dark...and she approves this message too!

Top 5 Sundays

From Larissa's Bookish Life

This week's theme:

Reasons I'll Quit An Author

I'm going to say this, I've not quit many authors, some I may even come back to...but here are things that will put me off an author.

1. I'm dead but I keep turning out books: aka V.C. Andrews. Did you know she only wrote The Flowers In The Attic series, My Sweet Audrina and I think the first two of the Heaven series...She died when she was writing the prequel to Flowers In The Attic. All the other books were ghost written, and poorly at that.

2. A series that goes on and on and never gets anywhere. I've tried reading the Kathy Reich's Bones series, but I quit, because there were too many books, and let's face it, Brennan is much more likable on TV then in print.

3. An author that keeps writing the same book over and over again. Ever find an author that you like, until you realize they just keep putting out the same book again and again with different character names?

4. The author writes about one thing only. I can't deal with books that are always just about vampires, mummies or the holy ghost. Truth be told, I think vampires are getting old. REALLY REALLY OLD!

5. The heroine from hell. If your character resembles Bella Swan in any way, I will not read on. I don't know how so many people continued on with Twilight, because Bella should have been vampire bait in the first book. Oh and see # 4 for yet another reason, why a certain author has been quit by me, even though there are 3 more of her godawful books on my TBR pile.

Comfort Food: Chocolate Chip Crunches

Let's face it, comfort food is not always meatloaf and mac and cheese.

Chocolate Chip Cookies are my comfort food!

I made these before Easter. The recipe is from the book in the picture.

Chocolate Chip Crunches

Preheat oven to 375

1 c butter melted (this is why the cookies are so good)
1 c white sugar
1 c brown sugar
1 tsp salt
2 tsp vanilla
2 beaten eggs
2 1/2 cups of flour
2 cups crushed corn flakes
2 cups chocolate chips

1. Melt butter add the sugars and stir. Then add soda, salt, vanilla and beaten eggs. Mix well. Then add the flour and stir it in. Next add the corn flakes and chips. Stir in thoroughly.

2. Form dough into walnut size balls and place on a well greased cookie sheet (or one lined with parchment)

3. Bake 8-10 minutes at 375

Sometimes Cheap Eats Are The Best

I hate when fast food places try to fancy up the menu.

When I go to McDonald's I love the basics, McDouble, Quarter Pounder and for the chicken sandwich, The Southern Style on a normal bun!

I hate those fancy buns they use on the other chicken sandwiches. It is too much bread! (Kinda like a certain hamburger at the same place)

I may be a carb-o-holic, but bread is not one of my weaknesses. Ask my dogs. They've eaten more buns over the years, as well as pizza crusts, than any other table scraps.

My cats, however, prefer pasta sauce. Go figure.

Cheap eats are always the best when you've gone the whole day on a 20 oz of Coca Cola and 20 oz of coffee.

Actually almost anything edible is good then!

Nighty Night

I'm tired, cranky and in need of a day off.

I think it is time for bed and a good book...possibly a glass of wine.

Oh and I have a damn CD review due on Friday and I haven't started it yet.

The Randomness of Randomosity

~ I'm so sad about Robin Gibb. Last I heard, he was in a coma, not sure it it was medically induced or not, but damn, this isn't fair. We're losing some super talented people this year. The Gibb family has not had it easy at all.

~ I've been reading a lot of cozy mysteries lately. They are addicting, especially when they have recipes included. I'm a sucker for a good cookie recipe!

~ Made meatballs for the first time tonight. They didn't turn out bad at all. I love spaghetti and meatballs! I still need to find a good Italian style meatball.

~ Speaking of reading, I want to go on a reading vacation...I want to take about 10 books and go to a hotel and just read for about 5 days. Hell...I cook take a charger and my nook and I'd be good!

~ Mom wasn't feeling good today, so I got some insurance..I wrote out all her meds, put her insurance card and stent/pacemaker cards out where they are easily found...She's feeling a bit better now. Yay!

~ They are going to keep Dad on prednisone which might be a good thing. I'm never sure with the meds changes, but if it keeps him out of the hospital I'm happy.

On Religion and Politics

Two subjects that shouldn't be discussed in polite company.

I often wonder how a country that is supposed to have freedom of religion is controlled by bible thumpers. Of course I always thought freedom of religion meant that there would not be one religion controlling the government, not that religion had no place, but I guess it is a Catch 22.

However I want you all to read this passage.

I often wonder how the republicans say they love Jesus when they don't practice as he preached. See Jesus was a bleeding heart liberal and if this passage is to be believed, his apostles with socialists.

Hmmmm

It all makes me shake my head...because it is further proof that the only thing that matters is greed. I understand that spending needs to be cut, but programs that help educate people and help seniors and the less fortunate should never be cut.

Camera Critters

Camera Critters

This week's camera critter is a kitty who lives next door. At least I think this kitty lives next door. I always see it lounging around in the neighbor's yard. I probably shouldn't assume, since there are a lot of strays in the neighborhood.

Anyway, I snapped this precious little kitty's picture the other day with my camera phone. It isn't the greatest picture, but I think it captures the kitty nicely as he was coming over to say hello.

Top 5 On Friday

Top 5 albums you wish were never recorded

1. Michael Jackson - Thriller: Not because I didn't like the album, but because of the pandemonium that ensued after its release. MJ might still be alive if this album hadn't been so obnoxiously popular.

2. John Lennon/Yoko Ono - Double Fantasy: If you take Yoko's screeching out of this,it is half a good record. Again, maybe John would still be alive if he would have stayed a Mr. Mom for a few more years.

3. Duran Duran - Thank You: This one makes it because it is so freaking awful that the whole band should be ashamed of themselves. Duran Duran covering artists that they never should have even thought of covering for the most part.

4. Elvis Costello - North: Elvis can sing anything, however this jazzy, romantic album that came between his divorce from Cait and his marriage to Diana just didn't do anything for me as a whole. Not that it isn't beautiful..it just doesn't feel right to me.

5. Madonna - Hard Candy...cos it sucked.

Burned Out

I've had enough.

I'm tired.

I'm sore.

I'm sick of everything.

I've got too much stuff on my plate and not enough time to do it.

My head is always spinning.

I declare this weekend, "Leave Andrea Alone Time"

Anyone that bugs me for no good reason, gets a kick in the rump!

Updating the Updates

~ Santorum is out of the race for President. I'm sad that the decision came about because of his daughter's health, but I am damn glad that wingnut isn't going to be in the White House. Dude is bat shit insane!!!!

~ Hop is the cutest movie ever!

~ Still slacking on the laundry front. I hate laundry! Have I mentioned that?

~ Could not call in payroll until 3 o'clock today. That is a total ARGH thing. I hope our checks come in on time. I have a feeling they won't though.

~ I've read 50 books so far this year! Woo hoo! My goal is 155 so I'm actually ahead of myself! Can I get a woot for that?

~ Manage to spend 30 minutes on an exercise bike. The only reason why this makes me happy is that I spent 30 more minutes reading! When you combine exercise and reading I'm a happy girl!

Food For Thought

Why is it that the days when I have so much I really should be getting done, I'm so darn tired I can't keep my eyes open.

Did I go to the grocery store? Nope

Did I do laundry? Nope.

Did I finish any of the reviews that are due this week? Nope, but I did write 200 words for one..so that is something.

I think I'm doing well at slacking, don't you?

Happy Easter!

Thought I'd share this great mashup of two Easter tunes, both about Egbert the Easter Egg, sung by Rosemary Clooney and Betty Clooney.

Hope you all had a wonderful day!

Random Thoughts and Nonsense

~ I hate coloring Easter eggs. I hate it with a passion that cannot be described. Even when I was little, I hated coloring eggs.

~ I can't wait til one of the holidays that don't involve me running around and cooking excessive amounts of food get here, one that preferably doesn't involve me waking up at ungodly hours to do the cooking. Memorial Day, maybe?

~ If I ever won the lottery, I would become a total hermit. I would call in dead to work and me and my millions would go somewhere and hide for the rest of my days. Anyone that bothered me would be tossed out the front door!

~ This presidential election needs to be over. I'm already sick of all the candidates and I don't believe a word any of them say.

~ The best way to end a day, PJs, good telly and a beer.

~ Kevin James did better TV then films

My last year of school was 1992, but not all of these songs were from that year.

2. Roxette - Joyride

Its A Coffee Night

I just learned something.

Apparently the girls working at McDonalds in the evening know how to mix the iced coffees better than the ones that work the morning shift.

I love McDonald's coffee, when they stir/mix it properly. If they don't it is just blech. But when the milk and syrup are properly mixed with the coffee, it is pretty damn good. At times I think it might be better than Starbucks and it is a helluva lot cheaper.

Of course, Wendy's coffee is also good, but there isn't a Wendy's in town.

So if you don't mind, I have some Vanilla-y caffeinated goodness to swill.

Tired

Ever have one of those days that totally saps everything out of you?

That's the kind of day I had.

My whole body aches and I can't figure out why.

I think tonight is going to be a Nyquil night or at least a Tylenol PM night.

I don't know if I'm trying to get sick or if I'm just mentally exhausted from living in this house.

Probably a bit of both.

Calgon take me away!

Bad Day

Ever just feel like you are waiting for the last shoe to drop?

That's how I feel right now and it isn't a good feeling.

Music For The Day

It isn't Palm Sunday without hearing the Hosanna from Jesus Christ Superstar at least one time. I adore this musical. There have been some really great singers playing both Jesus and Judas.

This is from the 1973 film version starring Ted Neeley.

"If every tongue were still the noise would continue, the rocks and stones themselves would start to sing."
