Watching Justin Hayward

My nephew told me that our local PBS station was airing the Justin Hayward special tonight.

It has been ages since I've listened to him, let alone watched anything like that.

It really is beautiful video and it gives the world a chance to see that he still has an incredible voice.

I had to draw comparisons to Paul McCartney as I watched. Justin is 4 years younger than Paul, but he sounds 100 times better. As much as I like Macca, his recent performances leave me wishing he'd retire.

I loved hearing the new songs live, since I wasn't able to see him in concert when he came to Pittsburgh, and likely won't be able to see him again ever, as life has made seeing concerts pretty much impossible. But more than the new songs, it was hearing New Horizons, Your Wildest Dreams and, of course, Question live.

If you have a chance you have to watch this video.

Justin Hayward's Doppleganger

Every time I see Keith Harkin I think...OMG its Justin Hayward..or at least Justin back in the day.

Wish I could find one from Red Rocks or earlier of Justin so you could be truly amazed.

Actually what is really amazing is the similarity between Keith's songwriting and Justin's. For those that don't know Keith, he's one of the original members of  Celtic Thunder. He's a very talented guy.  And he's definitely Justin's doppleganger!

Happy Birthday Justin Hayward!

I'm pretty sure my fan status is about to be revoked. If it weren't for a message on the Moody Blues Facebook page, I totally would have forgotten that today was Justin Hayward's birthday.

67 years old.

Wow!

It made me reflect on how his music has touched my life over the years.

Of course, I can't say I've been a fan from the start, as I wasn't born when The Moodies made their start. In fact, I was born around the time they were on hiatus.

But I had a love for all things from the 60s when I was very young. The Moodies were a band that I always came back to.

My first exposure to their music was Your Wildest Dreams and from then on, I was a fan. There have only been a handful of artists that have touched my life in the way this man's music has. (Funny the styles of the artists are really quite different..like Elvis Costello & Danny Elfman)

I am grateful for the music he's made over the years, and hope he's not done making music.

Then I think of some of the other artists that are the same age....Elton John who is alive and Davy Jones who is no longer with us...

I am so glad that Justin has made it this long, not to be morbid or anything. Those artists from the 60s seem to drop like flies very young.

But back to Justin. This is a man whose music means so much to so many people. The Moodies and his solo work are full of enduring songs, not music that you forget 5 minutes after it is over. He, as well as the band still have quite a following.

How wonderful that this man shares his talent to freely with the world.

Happy 67th birthday Justin! May you have many many more!

Happy Birthday Justin Hayward

I know I'm very late at posting this but it would be wrong to let this day go by without giving him a mention.

I'm Kinda Sad

This isn't the sad from something bad happening, its the sad from seeing a performer that you love really getting old.

I was @ John Lodge's Blog cos I haven't really been paying much attention to the guys lately and I was scrolling down, grumbling at the fact that they are playing Lancaster @ the end of March, which is still in my hibernation time of year, and just catching up with what has been going on when I saw this picture.

JUSTIN!

What the hell is happening to you!!!!

I want to force him to eat all of John's b-day cake! Possibly a few cheeseburgers too.

He seriously looks like he's wasting away!

~Sniffle~

Its heartbreaking.

At least my Lodgey still looks good for his age.
