Top 5 On Friday

Top 5 artists/bands you would like to thank for their music.

1. The Moody Blues

2. Elvis Costello

3. Mika

4. The Monkees

5. Gordon Lightfoot

I chose these 5 because there music has meant the most to me in the course of my life.  The Beatles should be in there too, but I imagine everyone wants to thank The Beatles for their contribution to music.

Without these 5 artists and countless others, my life would be so boring.

What artists are you giving thanks for this year?

Top 5 albums you can't wait to buy this autumn

The new Costello album is out, but I haven't bought it yet. I know! I should be flogged for not pre-ordering it, but when you have the vet bills that I had in the last 4 months, you can't pre-order much of anything

God I miss Sting! Another album already out..but still on my "must buy pile"

I admit, I love Cher..I can't help it!

Nick Lowe did a holiday album! This will be pre-ordered. There are some things that you just must have ASAP. This is one of them!

Erasure + Christmas = Squee! I wish I could afford the ltd edition 3 disc box..but sadly that's not to be

Top 5 Musical Summer Memories

1. My very first concert was The Monkees in July of 1986 I believe...Great show!

2. Seeing Deni Bonet @ Oglebay Park a few years back during their summer concert series. Great performance from a very nice lady who makes fun, funny and quirky songs and plays a kick ass blue violin!

3. Gordon Lightfoot @ The Harv in June of 2009.

4. The Moody Blues @ the super gorgeous and freezing Borgata July 15, 2015. I got gorgeous pics at that show!

5. Davy Jones July 29, 2006...the last time I saw him...beautiful memories...oh how I miss Davy!

Top 5 reasons CDs are better than mp3s

1. Mp3s don't come with cool artwork or lyrics.

2. Old cars have CD players, so CDs come in handy.

3. Mix CDS are more fun than playlists. (And they make great gifts)

4. CDs aren't invisible!

5. You can't display an mp3

Top 5 On Friday

Top 5 artists that sound better now then when they first started out

1. David Bowie: I'm not saying his early stuff wasn't stellar, but I am saying that at his age he's still a force to be reckoned with. Listen to his new album The Next Day, and you'll hear Bowie rocking just as hard as he did in the 70s.

2. Nick Lowe: This man is like a fine wine, he gets better with age. He may not be doing power pop anymore, but his music is still better than just about anything else out there and it has a maturity it lacked in his Cruel To Be Kind days.

3. Elvis Costello: He's not angry anymore. Pun intended. EC is an artist that proves that he can do just about anything at any age. Sadly no one pays much attention and he's one of the most brilliant songwriters of the last 30 years.

4. Erasure: As a whole, Erasure's sound hasn't changed much since they started out in the mid-80s. What has changed is the caliber of the songwriting

5. Blake Shelton: In this case, couldn't stand his earlier stuff...love everything he's done recently

U2 - How to Dismantle and Atomic Bomb: This is an example of when bad albums happen to good bands

Madonna - MDNA: 1 good song on this album
