Crappy Weekend

I spent the weekend running around like an idiot or going crazy or a bit of both. Friday night was just a mess of trying to get some stuff done, while Saturday was all about grocery shopping and trying to figure out what the hell is wrong with my car.

The consensus is low transmission fluid, so I'm calling the garage today to make sure there's nothing wrong. Thank god for the Power Train warranty.

Hopefully things will calm down a bit.

I keep saying that though, and it never does.

On a plus, one of my huge headaches may be going...just keep your fingers crossed for me.

Nook Simple Touch Sucks

I'm a Nook lover.  I have several generations of the Nook ereader.

The first generation no frills ereader was the absolute best. I probably never would have upgraded my device had the reader not fallen out of the shoddy Barnes and Noble case. Note to anyone buying the overpriced covers from B & N...DON'T! They aren't sturdy. The cases they sell at 5 Below are better quality! And if you want to overpay...even Walmart has better cases then the ones at B & N.

But back to the Simple Touch...with Glolight.

I've had this basic reader for about 2 years now, because I wanted something I could easily tote around. Nook Color is HEAVY! And I don't want to carry around my Nook HD + in my purse, so I've kept on using the old reader.

Well in the last few weeks, the Simple Touch has decided it doesn't want to let me unlock the device, except when it feels like it. Oh and something more fun! It decided I shouldn't read the book I was halfway through.

No joke, it pulled a nook book from my library and would not let me search for the book I had been reading. (I get a lot of ebooks from authors that don't come from B & N or books that come from Net Galley for review)

It isn't even rebooting properly!

I swear to god, if it doesn't start functioning correctly, I'm tossing it out the window!

Up Past My Bedtime

Ok, I'm really trying to stay up for The Tonight Show, so I can see Jimmy Fallon.

I love Jimmy Fallon. I think NBC finally has the right man to follow Jay Leno's footsteps.

See, I freaking hate Conan O'Brien. He was good the first few years he had Late Night, but then nothing changed with him. His interview style was juvenile and so was his humor.

I've always liked Jimmy Fallon, even if I wasn't keen on Saturday Night Live. He seems like an all around nice guy, and he is talented.

I think he'll bring some life to The Tonight Show. (Even if it does just become Late Night an hour earlier)

So fingers crossed that I can stay up to see his first show!

Let's Get Random

~ Bilbo's talking about the Amazon list of 100 books you should read in your lifetime. I think I've read 5-10 of them and have no interest in reading the others. In this day and age, they should write an article about people reading 100 books before they die and they should be happy if they are comic books.

~ Still sick of hearing about The Beatles.

~ I need more Sherlock...or at least more Benedict Cumberbatch...

~ I'm totally saddened that Psych is ending after  8 seasons, this was such a great show, and always fun to watch.

~ I could almost like Elementary, but Lucy Liu is a lousy rather bland Watson.

~ Are we ever going to have warm weather again? I'm thinking not.

Enough About The Beatles

OK, so it was 50 years ago that The Beatles were on Ed Sullivan.

A milestone in music history, yes, I agree with that. I agree that something like that can never happen again, but lordy, is there nothing else to talk about.

Half the band is dead and in the case of Lennon, who was THE founding member...well he's been dead a very very very long time.

We have Paul and Ringo...not a Beatles reunion folks, just two old friends. A Beatles reunion would need a miracle from God, cos Lennon and Harrison would have to rise from the dead.

And really, what more can be said about this performance that wasn't said 10 years ago at the 40th anniversary of the performance?

Not much I tell you.

It is all rehashing of old news.

Now I'm not slamming The Beatles in any way. I love them. They are one of the bands that shaped my life, but I think this is a bit much.

That being said...

It was 50 years ago today....

Black Forest Brownies

We have a standard chocolate cherry sheet cake that we make for almost every occasion, sometimes we frost it, sometimes we don't.

Lately we haven't been frosting it, which got me thinking that there had to be a way to make this cake into a brownie...

Well I searched  the net and found this recipe..

Black Forest Brownies

1 box Brownie mix for 9 x 13 pan
1 can cherry pie filler (I prefer the kind from Save A Lot or Aldi) Seriously folks the cheaper brands have more cherries! And that's what this recipe is all about.
2 eggs
1/4 cup of oil
1 1/4 cup of semi sweet morsels

Directions

Preheat oven to 350

Spray a 9 x 13 with Baker's Joy

Combine the brownie mix, eggs, oil and most of the pie filler. (Cherries but not all of the filling because it can make the brownie a little too ooey gooey....unless that's how you like them)

Bake 35 minutes or until a knife inserted comes out clean

Sprinkle morsels on top and smooth as they melt.

Cheesy Spinach Artichoke Dip

1 package of frozen spinach thawed and drained
1 can of artichoke hearts in water drained and then chopped
1 cup of grated Parmesan
1 cup mayo
4-6 squirts of hot sauce
1 cup Italian Cheese Blend (Or more depending on how cheesy you like it)

Preheat the oven to 350

Combine the first 5 ingredients in a food processor and combine on high for about 1-2 minutes, stopping occasionally to scrap down the edges.

Spoon into a shallow 1 - 1 1/2 quart baking dish

Cover with Italian Cheese Blend

Bake 20 minutes or until bubbly
