Dreaming Of Gordon

I was dreaming about Gordon Lightfoot last night. I guess it was because I had mentioned to my mother the other day that he has a birthday coming up in a month.

Gordon will be 72 on November 17.

This will also mark the 35th anniversary of the Edmund Fitzgerald tragedy. That happened on November 10, 1975.

I guess with all of this floating around in my brain, and my love for Mr. Lightfoot and his music, I just came up with an interesting little fantasy.

Not to worry people! I wasn't doing anything kinky with Mr. Lightfoot! He's a little bit too old for me! Though if I were my mom's age, I'd think he was pretty sexy. Plus he has such a great attitude towards his fans.

So yeah,  I was dreaming about another Lightfoot concert...who wouldn't? The man puts on a fantastic show!

Gord Is Gold

I'm trying to save up my Lightfoot story for the review I plan on writing a little later. Suffice to say the concert was fantastic. Gordon's voice is a little bit worse for wear after all his illnesses, but he still sounds good. His playing is also wonderful and after having a mini stroke a few years back, that's a very good thing. You can watch his hands on the guitar for hours!

I did get to say hello to him and get my Harmony CD signed. Facebook people should be able to see the horrid picture of me that was taken after the show. More on that in the review because I really could go on for hours about the impromptu meet and greet that happened last night in Greensburg.

There is one Gord related thing I want to say: He has a roadie/security/something that looks like a 40 something Justin Hayward. No joke! The guy has Justin's haircut, hair color and similar facial structure. That said, he's flipping gorgeous and I wanted to bring him home.

Oh and he didn't play Race Among The Ruins, but he did do Canadian Railroad Trilogy which is quite a treat, as he doesn't play that epic song as often anymore.

Tonight's Gordon Lightfoot

Well at long last, the Gordon Lightfoot concert is tonight. I'm very excited. I love this man's music. He's probably one of the few artists I've discovered by accident that I've kept loving even though he doesn't do much besides touring these days.

I'm hoping tonight he does Race Among The Ruins as he didn't do that one @ The Mountaineer when I saw him a few years back.

My seats are totally wonderful, so I hope I can get some good pictures of Gord. If I do they'll get posted over the weekend, as the next few days will likely be crazy busy for me.

Boo hiss!

Yesterday Was Super Awesome

It was a rough day starting out. I was battling the spreadsheets from hell at work. I went to the gym, did shopping at KMart to get cards for Dad for his b-day tomorrow and dessert for dinner.

I didn't even turn my computer on until shortly after 6 p.m. yesterday evening and I was greeted by an email from The Palace Theater saying that Gordon Lightfoot would be playing in Greensburg June 16.

I squeed and noticed they were doing presales already!

Guess what?

I'm going and my seats are Orchestra, row C!

I'm so excited and I didn't even know about this until the email came! I'm so thrilled. I love Gordon Lightfoot! This made my day, and will be the first "real" concert I've been to in 2 years! Last years shows were all freebies.

Gordon Lightfoot @ The Harv

I was rather worried about last night's show at the Harv. The venue had huge signs all over saying no cameras, but that wasn't the case. Within minutes of Mr. Lightfoot taking stage, flashes were everywhere, but taking pictures has little to do with the wonderfulness of the evening.

Gord opened with Cotton Jenny and went on to play so many wonderful songs incluging the obvious hits Sundown, Carefree Highway, The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald and Beautiful. He also plucked out lesser known beauties like Ribbon Of Darkness, Triangle and my personal favorite, Hangdog Hotel Room.

Gordon has been through many health ordeals in the last 6 years so I expected a less than stellar vocal performance, but I didn't receive one. For a man that spent 6 weeks in a coma and survived a mini-stroke, his voice is still more than good. Sure the deep rich voice of the 70s is not the same, but its still lovely and very enjoyable.

He as a ornery grin and tells his share of really bad jokes, which make the evening even more enjoyable. A more animated performer, I've yet to see and I've seen many artists of every age. I would put him on the top of my favorite concerts list, the only way the show could've been better would have been by the inclusion of Race Among The Ruins, which is my favorite Lightfoot song.

Like most performers he made a blunder on a lyric and the face he made was so amusing, proof that the legend is also very human.

God Bless Gord for the wonderful gift of music that he can still share with the masses. He's on performer that I'd see again.

So I'm a sleepy girl this morning, albeit a very happy girl.

Gordon Lightfoot!

Yesterday I got an email from Cincinnati Arts that Gordon Lightfoot was going to be playing there in April. I cussed up a storm because it was the first Friday in April and I had no desire to take any time off that early in the year. However after going to Pollstar, I found that he has a date much closer and in June!

Woo hoo!

I'm kind of unamused that I have to buy those tickets in 3 weeks and that its highly possible that it will be a Pickle sponsored show, but I'm going, even if I have to growl at Fishy for a certain amount of time. The thought of him being able to chat with Gord fills me with more jealousy than I can express. I know its a bad thing to feel that way, but I suffer job envy. I wonder if he'd swap me jobs for a few weeks, but only if he's working that show. I won't know until Monday if Pickle is sponsoring it, because I didn't find out about the WV show until after 12 noon yesterday.

Damn me, for not looking into Gord's concerts sooner.

I hope the venue is camera friendly. I love Gord! He's such a sweet geezer. I'm so excited! I want pictures of Gord!

The La La Gods Love Me

For a mere $1.75 I'm getting on of the Gordon Lightfoot CDs that I've been looking for.

Summertime Dream is just one of many Gordon CDs that I don't have, but it is the one that The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald appeared on. That's one of the main reasons that I must have this one.

I'm happy to be getting a used copy just to have it..though I know I'll end up buying a new one eventually, like I did with A Painter Passing Through, which is really a fantastic disc.

Truth be told, I have about 6 of Gordon's albums and 2 best of collections and I haven't found a horrid song on any of them. He's got a wonderful voice and is a wonderful songwriter. You really can't go wrong owning at least one of his discs.

More Hunks

How do I love Gordon? Let me count the ways.

1. At 68 he's still going strong despite many health issues.

2. He's one of those artists that can sing the phone book and still sound fantastic.

3. He's 68 and he's still pretty darn good looking.

4. He writes the best songs like Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald, Sundown, Inspiration Lady and Couchiching.

Peter Noone is the cutest darn thing because:

1. Big baby blue eyes.

2. He tells funny stories

3. He looks pretty darn good in rubber trousers.

4. He's got a great sense of humor.

5. He's really a nice guy when it comes to his fans.

6. He can sing just about anything. Ferry Cross The Youghiogheny is one of my favorites.

Why do I love Gary Puckett?

1. Lady willpower...it's now or never. Sing it with me damn it!

2. He sings in a key in which I'm (and most other people) aren't familiar.

3. How can you not love that face?

4. Another great guy with the fans.

5. Anyone that can wear a shirt that hideous and still look cute gets my vote of hunkyness.

Why is Fish always a hunk?

1. He's too darn cute not to be.

2. He brings me a great deal of amusement during the hours when I would prefer to be under my nice warm covers SLEEPING instead of getting ready for work and working.

3. I think it's that ornery grin.

4. How can you not like a guy who calls himself Fish.

5. He puts up with my emails and hasn't killed me yet. Oh and golf clap! His emails have been longer than 10 words lately. I'm so proud.
