Weirdness comes in all shapes and sizes

There's just been so much weirdness in my life that it's hard to know . It's hard to even know where to begin at this point.

At least the loserfest (read: Election) ended without weirdness. And what I'd like to say now is this. John Kerry conceded. It's over. I'm not happy, but it's over. I'm sure I'll have nightmares about what this country will be like in 2008, but like Dylan wrote, "It's all over now baby blue."

Maybe there will be candidates that can really inspire the love of a nation in 2008, because this election proved that the majority of Americans that voted for Dubya are barely a majority.

But enough weirdness of the presidential election. That's not what I'm about. Politics makes me cranky and irritable and it also makes me want to hit people with sticks. (Democrat and Republican alike)

I've been dreaming more lately. Weird dreams that make no sense, but combine a bit of everything going on in my life. I had Greg Proops, the South Side of Pittsburgh, killer dogs (thanks for that one Lady Starlight) the Tropicana Casino along with my beautiful ocean, a friend that I have no desire to speak to and snow. To the snow I say WTF! That's the only image that I can't figure out in the dream, except I must have been cold last night.

This is why I don't try to figure out dreams. I'm just happy I was lost in the Tropicana. I can't think of any place that I'd rather be lost.

At least in sleep, things are pleasant.

Now onto the Thursday Bookworm

1. Do you have a favorite author? Who is it, and which of their works do you recommend that we read? (If you have more than one, feel free to list them!)
I have several favorite authors, mostly because I read different genres

Let's start with the one that will shock you the most. (or maybe not)
Anais Nin (erotica) -- read the collection of short stories Delta of the Venus
Victoria Holt (historical) She also wrote under the name Phillipa Carr and I think one other pseudonym. If you have a passion for reading about how the previous Queens and Kings of England lived and loved, find one of her books.
Anne Rice (stuff that just doesn't happen) -- Of course you should read The Vampire Lestat, but also The Witching Hour
Marion Chesney (regency) - I love this woman's writing. This falls into the cheesy romance category, but I've always had dreams of wearing those beautiful gowns and being pulled into a waltz by some dashing gentlement that looks suspiciously like John Lodge. ~sigh~ Any book she wrote is worth picking up, so I can't really recommend anything.

2. Who would you consider your least-favorite author? How many books have you read by this person, and why do you dislike them? (Again, if there is more than one, list away!)
Danielle Steele - mostly because she takes great delight in killing off characters. Oddly I've read many of her books and 99% of the time I'm disappointed.
V.C. Andrews - Unless you're a fan of incest and if you are you're sick! I can't think of a reason to like this dead woman who still manages to turn out books! GAH! Tell people to stop continuing on your legacy. Come back and haunt them and make them stop!

In junior high she was the author to read, and so I read the Flowers In the Attic series and My Sweet Audrina (where everyone fell down the stairs and died!) Pity me! These were the worst books ever.

3. Do you ever purchase a book solely based on the author's name, without even knowing what the book is about? Have you ever been disappointed by something they wrote?
Yup, Anne Rice. Hell yeah. A lot of the last Vampire Chronicles novels were what they like to call potboilers. Queen of the Damned and Tale of the Body Thief come to mind. But there are more good books then bad, so I won't complain too much.

4. Have you ever met one of your favorite authors, such as at a book signing or a reading? Did they act as you had expected, or were they completely different from the way you had pictured them?
No, I only stalk hotties like the Moody Blues and all my favorite authors are women.

5. Do you check out your favorite author's website or blog on a regular basis?
If Alton Brown counts, yeah. Other than that, I only care about the books, not their websites and such. I'm not a fangirl for writers.
