The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald is one of those haunting songs that seem to stick with you after hearing it. Well, at least it sticks with me.
The photo is a shot of the Edmund Fitzgerald, one of the longest ships to sail the great lakes.
It went down on Nov 10, 1975. The cause of the sinking was never determined. All 29 crew members perished. The ages of the crew ranged from the very young at 20 to the near retirement age of 63. Several of the crew were ironically making a last trip on the Fitzgerald, only for it to be the last trip of their lives.
Gordon Lightfoot's song is a beautiful tribute to these men and their final voyage on the icy waters of Lake Superior.
