The Post In Which I Rant About The Mall

I was at Westmoreland Mall in Greensburg yesterday and there were a few things that truly annoyed the hell out of me.

1. The Christmas decorations were all down and it was only Dec. 30. I realize if you don't have a religious bone in your body and you use the holiday to suck presents out of people that once Santa comes it's all over, but for the rest of us that do have some, couldn't you at least leave the decorations up until New Year's Day? Crikey!

2. The amount of people shopping. I remember when I worked retail a few years back that the weekend after Christmas was usually one of the deadest weekends of the year. Yesterday the mall was packed, and everyone was obnoxious.

3. NY & Co.: The whole store in general annoys me. This used to be my favorite store, when it was called Lerner NY. Now they've shrunk in size and though the clothes are still pretty some of the signature items you used to be able to find there are no more. ARGH!

4. The Disney Store: Why the hell do they only have 2 items relating to The Nightmare Before Christmas? It's a damn Disney film! They had a men's Jack t-shirt and it was flipping blue! And the Sally t-shirt came in 3 sizes, Heffalump, Woozle and Heffalump and Woozle. (Large, X-Large and XX-Large)

5. Orange Julius no longer makes my favorite hot dog, the Reuben dog. ~sigh~ That was the hot dog with sauerkraut and swiss cheese. Damn. That's wrong.

The Picture I Don't Want Fish To See

I went out to lunch with one of my best friends today. Jennifer has been home from the Spokane area and we finally found time to get together. I only see her about once a year, so I move mountians if necessary when she's home so that I can see her.

Of course getting together with her requires a photo to be taken. Surprisingly my camera is still working after snapping a photo of my ugly ole self.

BAH!

I hate pictures of me.

And you can see why. BAH! I'm the one in the purple top for those of you that have never laid eyes on my less than perfect form.

BAH!

I Have Another Dilemma

The pink Zen of doom is still full of Christmas music. It never really got to be fully appreciated this year. Now it's nearly New Years and I have to figure out of I want to remove the Christmas music from the player or leave it there in case I get the new Zen Vision in the next month.

I'm not really ready to put the Christmas music away. I didn't really have a holiday, it went by so quickly, what with Deb in the hospital and getting our house ready for her to come home. It's almost like the holiday didn't happen. Everything I was looking forward too, we didn't do. We made no cookies other than the important butterscotch haystack cookies. Our turkey will be made tomorrow instead of Christmas Day.

It's all so darn weird.

So now I'm just not sure what to do. Should I leave the holiday tunes on the player for another week or two or should I just wipe away all traces of this holiday that I would really just like to forget?

Top 5 On Friday - Week 104 (Part Two)

The second half of today's meme from

Top 5 Songs To Help You Ring In 2007 (Interpret as you see fit)

George Harrison - Ding Dong
This is one of my favorite festive songs, written as only Mr. Harrison could write a song about the new year.

Tom Jones - Help Yourself
(I could donate this song to 99.3 WPKL so that the DJ could play the proper requests and not a Tom Jones song that makes me weep! No more What's New Pussycat! I can't take it!)

Peter, Paul & Mary - Wedding Song (There Is Love)
(Inevitably I'll be a bit down because I'll be ringing the New Year in at home again. I've never been one for New Year's celebrations but as I get older I realize that I've never spent a New Year's Eve with anyone other than my family and my friend Tina during my high school years. BAH!)

Cliff Richard - Miss You Nights
(I figure if I'm going to feel sorry for myself, I might as well add this gorgeous song to the list. I don't even miss anyone, except my kitties that left me in the past two months.)

Oingo Boingo - We Close Our Eyes
(And another year has come and gone....)

Top 5 On Friday - Week 104 (Part One)

The last Top 5 for 2006 by those ladies @

Top 5 Songs of 2006

1. Cheap Trick - Perfect Stranger
(I keep forgetting this album came out this past year)

2. Erasure - Tenderest Moments
(This song was on the b-side of the single Run To The Sun back in the 90's but it was even more beautifully rerecorded for Union Street)

3. Elvis Costello & Allen Toussaint - Whose Gonna Help A Brother Get Further
(The only song I like from The River In Reverse. I hope he gets into the studio alone after Diana and the twins are settled)

4. Diana Krall - The Boulevard Of Broken Dreams
(Diana's latest offering From This Moment On is beautiful I can barely pick one song to highlight from this CD)

5. Keri Noble - Red Wine Til Daylight
(This is one of the 6 songs from her EP of the same name. It can only be purchased on her website too. I wish her new album would come out soon.

Part two will come after work!

Sappy Love Songs?

In the mid-80's there was this wonderful song by Boz Scaggs that they used to play on Vh-1 all the time. This was the era when Rosie O'Donnell was a VJ. Lordy but she was just as obnoxious then as she is now, but that's neither here nor there. I loved the song and the video.

Up until yesterday I only had the song on an old 45.

I found the song on a website yesterday and quickly downloaded. It's still sappy, and it's still a bit sad, but I still love it.

So I have to share the beauty with you.

Boz Scaggs - Heart Of Mine

Brainstorming

I want to start writing again. It's been awhile since I had any inspiration, but I figured my mind is full of ideas of what a relationship would be like with that certain person I've been crushing on for the last month or two or three or four.

The problem is twisting the real into fantasy and coming up with a name for a character that is almost real. Almost real because I don't really know much about that object of my affections. I only know what he shares on the air and that isn't much.

I also need to create a radio station for my fictional character to work at.

I think that if I can get these sorted out I can come up with a story, probably one that would make a certain person blush more than he already has as a result of the shennanigans of a certain friend of mine and myself.

At least I can write about all the hot steamy sex that I'm not having.

~big sigh~

The Last Hunks Of The Year

Ah, the guys that I will never have the chance to cuddle in real life. The joy they bring is purely for eye candy purposes. It's better that way, right?

Let's start off with some sweet eye candy.

Fish is just too darn cute and cuddly. I wonder if we could clone him so that I could have one.

Oh...I think I spy more candy.

Davy Jones is eternally eye candy.

These next guys aren't really sweet, but they are easy on the eyes. (Well, most of them are.)

I don't know about you, but I think Justin's thinking up something rotten to do next.

Now here's a sweetie pie.

I miss Peter. I wish he'd come back to the Pittsburgh area soon.

Oh, here's another sweetie

Cliff Richard is another eternal cutie pie. I wouldn't mind a big ole hug from him.

Actually I wouldn't mind a big ole hug from any of these guys, especially that first one on this list.

~sigh~

I suddenly feel like I should be singing "I Want The One I Can't Have" by The Smiths. At least I think it's The Smiths.

Why?

I've been asking myself this all day. Why do I find myself focusing my attention on a man that doesn't know that I breathe on a regular basis. A man that can only respond to emails in one line responses.

Am I that desperate for attention? Do I have to latch onto people that will in no way ever have a friendship, let alone a relationship with me? Am I that scared of having someone get close that I can only focus on people that will never get close to me?

Most likely the answer to all of these is yes.

Damn.

And yes, I've been f-ed..erm screwed over enough that I prefer it this way. I know that if I were stuck face to face with the object of my lusting, I would turn into a quivering mass of goo or I would start babbling incoherently.

I can't act like a human being around someone I like. Which makes me wonder why I waste the emotion on people who can't return my sentiment?

Perhaps I'm a nut.

Perhaps I thrive on emails that consist of 10 words or less.

Perhaps I need to shut the damn radio off and try to figure out how to get my Zen to play on a computer that's older than dirt so that maybe after a week or two or ten I'll forget about that adorable guy that doesn't know I exist, and likely thinks I'm the most insane human being ever to walk the planet earth.

Fish Is Back!

All I can say is THANK GOD! When Fish is back there's more variety to the tunes I hear in the morning. I turned the radio back on when I woke this morning for the first time in over a week. There's no need to listen in those first 2 hours of the morning show if Fish isn't there. Already the morning music is more amusing then it has been.

Yay!

This also means my first two hours at work today will be a little brighter and considering my wisdom teeth and sinuses are still acting up, I need a bit of cheering up. I have no desire to spend my Christmas money at the dentist. That man took about $300 from me last year. ARGH! Now pass the extra strength tylenol and I'll deal with it!

An Interesting Dilemma

What do you do with Christmas cash? Do you use it to buy that mp3 player you are coveting or do you pay off a bill or do you use it to pay for something useful like the Triple A membership that expires on Dec 31?

~ big sigh ~

These are the kinds of dilemmas that I'm not equipped to deal with.

My brain fights over them.

My heart wants the Creative Zen Vision with 30GB of space for my music. My conscience tells me that paying off a bill would make my monthly bill load so much easier & that I'd be able to put some money away soon, thus being able to buy an mp3 player later on. After all, the Pink Zen of Doom is fine. I just dig the idea of having all my Christmas music on it eternally.

Of course looking over the bill, it would only cut it down and not pay it completely off. So I'm stuck with paying for the Triple A and having half the money for the Zen Vision.

Can I just cry now?

I don't want to put the other half on the damn credit card. I want to pay the whole thing which is roughly $210 dollars.

ARGH!

Damn that Christmas cash.

Christmas Day 2006

It's almost time to sit down and eat and here I am sitting in front of my computer. My Christmas stocking was filled with wonderful things. 2 Gordon Lightfoot CDs came from some of my online friends. Another online buddy sent me the most yummy smelling Peppermint Body Lotion from Bath & Body Works. But the most consistent gift I received this year involved my favorite Tim Burton film, Nightmare Before Christmas!

I have two Jack Skellington plushies, one that's bendable and another that has a deformed (Big) head. I also got Jack Skellington slippers and a new hoodie! Squee!

So far things are going well with Deb, but tomorrow will be a change, as I go back to work and her sons will have to do the lifting for her when she has to go to the potty. I have faith in them.

I didn't make it to church this year and that leaves me feeling quite sad, but I think the lord understands the special things that were required at home and that it wasn't me being a lazy butt.

He's given us so many blessings this year. He's also added a few more angels to his ranks in the forms of my two sweet kitties. Their presence is missed greatly today. I looked out my window and saw the graves and I cried. I can only hope that next year, Misty and Buddah will have sent me a new friend to love and for Oogie to play with.

It may not be a perfect holiday but it's a good one. The family is together. We have good food. Oh and we have music.

So to share some of my holiday with you...

Tommy James - I Love Christmas

Gary Puckett - Medley: God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, What Child Is This, Angels We Have Heard On High

Annie Haslam - We Three Kings

Steve Winwood - Christmas Is Now Drawing Near At Hand

The Beach Boys - Little Saint Nick

U2 - Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)

Merry Christmas

Advent Song Calender Day 30

Ok, everyone should be done with their shopping for Christmas, if not, SHAME ON YOU! Those poor retail employees are going to be tortured by your sorry selves tomorrow. Be kind to them and remember they make shitty pay to put up with you trashing their stores looking for a gift that will probably get returned after Christmas, because you couldn't do your shopping earlier and you picked up whatever you could find.

(Yes, I worked retail for several years)

Paul Revere & The Raiders - Macy's Window

Happy Christmas! There will be several songs tomorrow!

I Want This Holiday Over

Tomorrow I have to go to the hospital for Physical Therapy training for my sister and to possibly learn how to give her the shots of blood thinners that will keep her from getting a clot while she's unable to stand.

I made it safely to the hospital though it was the most nervewracking drive I've ever made in my life.

We're waiting for the hospital bed to arrive now, so that we can be ready when they discharge her tomorrow.

Everything is chaotic.

I wanted to go to church tonight but I now need to be at home to help when the bed arrives. I can't go in the morning because I need to be in the hospital by 9 o'clock for the training.

I'm ready to curl up and pull the covers over my head.

My wisdom teeth are driving me nuts. My sinuses are trying to act up. I just want 8 hours of sleep and I don't know when I'm getting that.

Oh and have I mentioned, I still need a hug?

Advent Song Calender Day 29

The Mistress Of The Dark has only one thing to say on the 29th day of the Christmas season and that is this.

Olivia Olson - All I Want For Christmas Is You

This song is dedicated to a certain DJ @ WPKL.

I don't want a lot for Christmas
There's just one thing I need
I don't care about the presents
Underneath the Christmas tree
I just want you for my own
More than you could ever know
Make my wish come true
All I want for Christmas is...
You

I don't want a lot for Christmas
There's just one thing I need
I don't care about the presents
Underneath the Christmas tree
I don't need to hang my stocking
There upon the fireplace
Santa Claus won't make me happy
With a toy on Christmas day
I just want you for my own
More than you could ever know
Make my wish come true
All I want for Christmas is you
You baby

I won't ask for much this Christmas
I don't even wish for snow
I'm just gonna keep on waiting
Underneath the mistletoe
I won't make a list and send it
To the North Pole for Saint Nick
I won't even stay awake to
Hear those magic reindeers click
'Cause I just want you here tonight
Holding on to me so tight
What more can I do
Baby all I want for Christmas is you
Ooh baby
All the lights are shining
So brightly everywhere
And the sound of children's
Laughter fills the air
And everyone is singing
I hear those sleigh bells ringing
Santa won't you bring me the one I really need
Won't you please bring my baby to me...

Oh I don't want a lot for Christmas
This is all I'm asking for
I just want to see my baby
Standing right outside my door
Oh I just want you for my own
More than you could ever know
Make my wish come true
Baby all I want for Christmas is...
You

All I want for Christmas is you... baby

Thank God For Amazon UK

I don't usually buy CDs from the UK directly, but I had a horrid thing happen to 5 CDs this week. It seems my doggie was a bit peeved with me and he lifted his leg on my CD case and destoyed 7 Siouxsie & The Banshees CDs. ARGH! That didn't make me happy. It made me less happy when one of them was the out of print A Kiss In The Dreamhouse

Now I have to recover Peepshow, Though The Looking Glass, Tinderbox and Join Hands. Thankfully the only thing to be destoryed on Superstition was the artwork and I have another copy of that one.

Mind you these were my favorite Siouxsie discs. ARGH! And no one saw it happen, so you really can't discipline the doggy and frankly I don't have the heart to do it anymore.

Hopefully the money fairy will be kind enough to stop by and donate the money so I can replace those other favorites of mine.

Top 5 On Friday - Week 103

From those ladies @

Top 5 musical things you are looking forward to in the new year

1. Duran Duran are supposed to have their new album out next year. I laugh when I say this, because this album was supposed to be out this past summer. I'm not sure how well I'll like the album, since they worked with Justin Timberlake and that thought alone makes me want to wretch up my breakfast, but I'm willing to give it a listen.

2. Gordon Lightfoot touring. I missed him the last time he was in the Pittsburgh area. I hope he comes within driving distance soon, especially since his health isn't very good.

3. Snagging a sexy little Fish and bringing him home to the fishbowl in my room. (Ok, so I still believe the Dream Big and Dream Often motto sometimes)

4. A new album by Erasure. My Christmas present actually showed up! Yay! But the boys are in the US working on a new album and I'm hoping it gets released by summer of 07.

5. Paul McCartney touring. I haven't seen the man since the early 90's when he played the Civic Arena in Pittsburgh. I just want to see him one more time and I'll be content. I don't even care where my seats would be.

and/or

Top 5 albums of 2006

Diana Krall - From This Moment On

This was one of my favorite albums of the year.

Erasure - Union Street

The redone songs on this one are totally beautiful. It's not a live album, its an acoustic album and its spectacular.

Elvis Costello - My Flame Burns Blue

I love this live album and since I couldn't in good conscience put The River In Reverse on my list as I never listen to it, this would have to be the album of my choosing.

The Beatles - Love

The reworkings by George and Giles Martin are incredible. It's a fresh look at The Beatles and it really makes me long to see the show in Vegas.

Sarah McLachlan - Wintersong

One of the most beautiful Christmas albums. It's worth listening to even when the season is long gone

Advent Song Calender Day 28

It's the Santa Baby Edition...with a few lyrical changes as I sing it.

Santa baby, slip a kitten under the tree, for me
I've been an awful good girl
Santa baby, and hurry down the chimney tonight

Santa baby, a sexy Mini Cooper, bright blue
I'll wait up for you dear
Santa baby, and hurry down the chimney tonight

Think of all the fun I've missed
Think of all the fellas that I haven't kissed
Next year I could be oh so good
If you'd check off my Christmas list
Boo doo bee doo

Santa honey, I wanna yacht and really that's
Not a lot
I've been an angel all year
Santa baby, and hurry down the chimney tonight

Santa cutie, there's one thing I really do need, the deed
To a platinum mine
Santa cutie, and hurry down the chimney tonight

Santa baby, I'm filling my stocking with a duplex, and checks
Sign your 'X' on the line
Santa baby, and hurry down the chimney tonight

Come and trim my Christmas tree
With some decorations bought at Tiffany's
I really do believe in you
Let's see if you believe in me
Boo doo bee doo

Santa baby, forgot to mention one little thing, a Fishy
I don't mean in a bowl
Santa baby, and hurry down the chimney tonight

Hurry down the chimney tonight
Hurry down the chimney tonight

Madonna - Santa Baby

Eartha Kitt - Santa Baby

Thirteen Reasons Why This Is Going To Be A Terrible Holiday

I'm not usually down on Christmas. I love the holiday, but this year a string of nasty events are conspiring against me.

1. My sister is in the hospital after an accident on her way to work yesterday morning. She's got a fractured pelvis and we aren't sure how long she'll be in the hospital.

2. My cat died on Dec 16 in my lap. That's the 2nd cat to be taken from me in 6 weeks.

3. Most of the family isn't going to be home this year.

4. My Christmas present won't even be here on Christmas Day as it just shipped from the UK today. Grrrr.

5. I have no special someone to share the day with. (Except family that I have to love)

6. Half of the cleaning isn't going to get done because of big sis's accident.

7. I'll be baking with mum all day on Saturday. (There will be no breaks in the cooking or there will be no cookies)

8. Laundry day will be moved to Friday after work. I hate laundry day.

9. I still haven't lost enough weight to be happy. Why oh why do I have to weigh 135 stinking pounds? Why do I let it bother me.

10. 6 of my CDs were destroyed by a doggie today that snuck in my room and lifted his leg on my CD case. One of these CDs is very very expensive to replace and because of the holiday I don't have the cash to replace it.

11. The holiday falls on a Monday which means I only get one day off. Pooh! When will I ever get a 4 day weekend? The answer = Never.

12. No one ever wants to go to Midnight mass and I hate the 8 a.m. mass that I always end up going to.

13. We only have 2 bottles of wine and this is shaping up to be at least a 4 bottle holiday

Advent Song Calender Day 27

On the 27th day of the Christmas season The Mistress Of The Dark gave to me, another song from her Christmas music library.

Elton John - Step Into Christmas

This is one of those truly fun songs. Enjoy!

Christmas Hunks

These are the last hunks before Christmas. Actually, these are the hunks I'd most like to find under my Christmas tree this year, with a big red bow attached. (Other wrapping is optional)

I'd like to find Hugh Jackman under my tree, but I'd really like to find him in his Boy From Oz shiny gold or silver trousers. (with the bow, of course)

Gordon Lightfoot needs to take his place under my tree with his guitar. He better be prepared to sing a few songs for me too.

John Lodge and Justin Hayward both need to squeeze themselves under the tree. With these two the only thing they need to bring is their sexy selves and the bow. Jus can bring Ole Red if he feels so disposed though.

Have I forgotten anyone? Hmmm. Who could it be?

Oh yes, Fish!

Hmmm I think the bow might be optional here. What a cutie. He can stay under the tree in my computer room. Wouldn't want the other hunks to get jealous of the extra attention he'd be getting.

Tell It To Me Tuesday - The Advent Song Calender Edition

Janet wants to know

What Are Your Favorite Holiday Songs Ever and Why?

Here are several of my very favorites. A mini mix for the song calender for day 26 of the Christmas Season. Downloads will be available for a limited time as always. Snag em while you can. I don't think the why is necessary as it's obvious, these songs are all beautiful and contagious.

The Moody Blues - Don't Need A Reindeer

Cliff Richard - Mistletoe & Wine

Michael Ball - When A Child Is Born

Wizzard - I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday

Greg Lake - I Believe In Father Christmas

Paul McCartney - Wonderful Christmastime

Dido - Christmas Day

Barenaked Ladies - Elf's Lament

Rod Stewart & Dolly Parton - Baby It's Cold Outside

XTC - Thanks For Christmas

Burl Ives - Have A Holly Jolly Christmas

Elvis Costello & The Chieftains - St Stephen's Day Murders

Oh and You're A Mean One Mr. Grinch

Tuesday Randomosity

~ I did part of the Christmas grocery shopping last night. I think I might do the rest tonight, because the store wasn't too busy last night and I left with my small shred of sanity intact! Oh and I got everything on the list! Woot!

~ Mom won't let me smuggle/adopt another cat until spring. I have 3 kitties, I know, but none of them sleep with me. 2 stay in our kitchen by the hot air registers and in Save-A-Lot boxes and my youngest sleeps in a cage because he's so darn fast that we're all scared he might sneak outside. I need a kitty to keep me warm at night.

~ Lately I've been getting a strange hit from Washington, PA. (Well that's where the hit registers on my Site Meter traffic counter) I wish I knew who this person was. I know that none of my local friends know my blog. It's either a Moody Blues fan...an Elvis Costello fan or Fish. Please leave a comment and say hi, whoever you are.

~ I've been listening to Tom Jones again. Someone stop me please! I feel like I should be in a house coat or a silk sweat suit ready to throw my panties on a stage. I've only thrown underwear at 2 bands....I'll let you guess which two.

~ I've decided I can't listen to Pickle this week. No Fishy = No Pickle. This is just my week of no joy.

~ Charleroi's Christmas tree is a bit sad. Seems someone put it too far away from the outlet and it's got a tilt going on.

Advent Song Calender Day 25

On the 25th day of the Christmas season, The Mistress Of The Dark gave to me, another song from her Christmas music library.

I love celtic music and one of my favorite voices is Moya (Maire) Brennan. Today's song is from her album An Irish Christmas

In The Bleak Midwinter

This song was beautifully done by the Moody Blues as well, but we'll get to them later.

Enjoy!

The Radio Sucks Today

Pickle is just not Pickle without the sweet voice of my Fishy! I thought I could take listening to Jay and Maria, only without Maria, cos even the simulcast parts of the station have DJs that are taking this week off.

GAH!

My morning is not any fun without my sweetie's voice. Is it not bad enough that I don't have my little grey kitty face to great me in the morning must I be deprived of my Fishy because of something as trivial as a VACATION! (One in which a certain DJ isn't even going anywhere! I could give him suggestions of things to do...if he'd include a certain Mistress Of The Dark in his plans)

What is a vacation anyway? I haven't had a real one in years. I only have weekends. Mind you they are kick ass fun weekends in places like Atlantic City and Erie, but still, they are not vacations. There are no extra days off for me until next year.

I think I'm going to sulk for the rest of the week. Actually I'm going to sulk until Tuesday when Fish comes back and I can have some joy in my life again.

Random 10 - Week 85

From the ladies @

10 songs that sum up your weekend...or were on your weekend playlist...and one picture that relates back. (oh, and if you feel like it, tell us why you picked the songs you did)

The first songs I played while holding vigil over my sweet Misty girl who passed away Saturday.

Tom Jones - What's New Pussycat
(I will never ever be able to listen to this song again)

Elaine Paige - Memory
(Misty was the original Grizabella, the Glamour Cat)

Warren Zevon - Keep Me In Your Heart
(Misty will never leave my heart. I woke crying this morning, knowing that I'll never hear her talking to me in her sweet kitty voice ever again)

Justin Hayward - Bright Eyes
(Bright eyes, burning like fire. Bright eyes, how can you close and fade)

Now on a happier note

I finally got to hear this song

Cliff Richard - 21st Century Christmas
(Trust Cliff to make me smile when nothing else could. I don't care what anyone says about the man, Cliff is wonderful. Oh and he's a looker too. God bless my friend who posted it so I could hear it before it showed up in my mail box)

Paul McCartney - Wonderful Christmastime
(This song was the last one I heard on Pickle before 99.3 Laurel Highlands Rock Station took over for the weekend. How the hell can a station not even 20 miles away from me lose its signal to a station over 50 miles away at random intervals? Fish doesn't believe me when I say this. If he wants to keep vigil in my bedroom to witness this oddity, I allow him)

Gordon Lightfoot - On Yonge Street
(I love Gordon, n'uff said)

Tony Orlando And Dawn - Knock Three Times
(Hey Fishy! Knock 3 times on the ceiling if you want me!!)

Bitter Sweet - Dirty Laundry
(Not the song Don Henley sang. I'm thinking this band could become a guilty pleasure of mine)

Elvis Costello - Earthbound
(One of the Wendy James demos I have floating on my hard drive)

And as for the pictures, because I couldn't decide: These are the last pictures taken of my angel. Even so sick and thin, she was still the most beautiful kitty in the world

Advent Song Calender Day 24

On the 24th day of the Christmas season the Mistress of the Dark gave to me, another song from her Christmas music library.

Let's go for a little 80's for the season. Today's song is by the pop band Squeeze.

Christmas Day

Enjoy!

Musical Discoveries

I've been trying to be a bit different this weekend. So I let myself explore some new avenues of music. After all you can't listen to oldies all the time. Horizons need to be expanded. I'm not saying I'm going to put away all my wonderful classic rock CDs, but I am going to listen to something new, something different.

I'm giving Bic Runga, Azure Ray, Kings Of Convenience and Bitter Sweet a try this weekend. I also thought I'd give a Madonna b-side a listen. Remind me not to do that ever again. Madonna is just so damn boring anymore.

Right now I'm kinda refreshed by the Bic Runga CD Birds

Until this morning the only songs she's done that I've been familiar with are her cover of Sugar Sugar with Dan Wilson of Semisonic and Listening For The Weather. She's a bit typical in the way so many female vocalists are, but her songwriting is good, its quite possible if I have the extra money, that I'd add this disc to my collection.

Right now I'm listening to Azure Ray's Hold On Love.

I'll file this one on my give it a second chance bin. The vocalist is a bit too monotone for me. I don't like emotionless vocalist. The song If You Fall is the best I've heard so far. I may not be in the mood for this right now. It's kinda that dreamy pop type of music.

I didn't mention that I snagged Loreena McKennit's An Ancient Muse today.

I won't call this one of her best. I have her Christmasy EP and her Christmas album as well as Book of Secrets and a few others, I can't remember. I know I'll probably get this as I love celtic music to relax to. The music is always good, and right now I need something that will calm my troubled mind.

Oh and for the best trippy CD ever Bitter Sweet - The Mating Game

I feel like I should be in a trendy, yet quiet club, drinking funny colored drinks out of funny shaped glasses. The music makes me think of Portishead a bit, but more upbeat. This album makes me want to grab a cute guy, and get drunk and make out for long hours. Any takers? Nevermind.

As for Kings Of Convenience, I'm not sure. The album I snagged is Riot On An Empty Street

I've heard so much good about this band that I'm prepared to like them. The only problem is my ear isn't too sure about it. Maybe it will grow on me. Or maybe I'm just getting old and set in my musical ways.
