An Afternoon In The South Side

Yesterday my sister and I took off for Pittsburgh's South Side. Essentially we did the walking/eating tour of that area.

Let me better explain. The South Side is a lovely little shopping district of the city, a sweet little town unto its own, right across from downtown. (Hums the Petula Clark song) You'll find every kind of shop imaginable there; vintage clothing, record shops, knickknacks, restaurants....restaurants...and more restaurants.

You can eat just about every ethnic cuisine in this one area. There's Thai, Lebanese, Japanese, Italian, Mexican, Old European...you name it, you'll find it. There are also some awesome bars in the South Side, but if you really want to know which one is the most fun, go to Lady Starlight's blog.

Now there's no good parking on Carson St near the shops and whatnot, so the Music Whore always parks at Station Square and makes the mile walk up Carson to the shopping district. Why? To walk off any calories consumed before.

We started off at the Hard Rock Cafe...because the Music Whore was pissed that she didn't get to the Hard Rock - Atlantic City, cos her friend was a cheap ass. The Music Whore may be broke, but she likes to stimulate the economy and eat good food and buy useless t-shirts.

~editors note...the music whore and lady starlight both bought the same shirt...It is possible a picture will surface someday soon.

Then we walked on. The weather wasn't looking to cooperative, so we tried to find the next place to stop, which just happened to be Taco Loco.

There we had Huevos Rancheros, which is pretty much eggs on a tortilla with ham and salsa, very spicy salsa. Oh were they good. With this yummy treat we had sangria soda.

But that's not all. Cos you all know that we love food and we hadn't had dessert yet, so where did we go? A place called the Melting Pot. It's specialty is fondue. Mmmm to have Justin Hayward or John Lodge covered in chocolate...

Oh, but I digress.

We had a lovely chocolate s'mores fondue. You got to dip a wide variety of yummy things into the fondue, pineapple, strawberry, marshmallows, pound cake and you also had graham crackers and the best cheesecake I have ever tasted. I also thought the bartender would probably have tasted good in fondue, but again..I digress. (mmm but sexy blonde blue eyed men make the music whore smile)

Oh and if you want to know what to drink with your fondue...try a nice cappuccino.

All in all a wonderfully splendiforous afternoon and evening. There will of course be more pictures at the photoblog, so go ahead and take a look. Pittsburgh may not be the most exciting city, but it's quite a pretty place.
