I had a bit of a history lesson watching Good Eats today.
Let's have some pity for Boston, m'kay.
Not only have they got the worst of it this winter, being dumped on with feet of snow each weekend for the last few weeks, but let's go back in history to learn something new and horrible that happened there.
On January 15, 1919 the Boston Molasses Disaster occurred.
A large molasses storage tank burst, sending molasses flowing through the streets at a rate of 35 mph, killing 21 and injuring 150.
Yikes!
Bet you know where that old saying about molasses comes from now!
This occurred in Boston's north end, and on hot summer days, some people say they can still smell the molasses!
