Thursday Thirteen

It's time for another episode of 13 things that are annoying the hell out of me right now.

1. People that ignore me for no good reason. Honest for some of the crap they pulled I could be a lot less nice than I have been.

2. If I send you an email...wouldn't it be nice if the recipient acknowledged it's receipt. This goes for the person in number 1 that I speak of...as well as a few other people.

3. People that read my blog on a daily basis and yet never leave a comment or use the shout box on the side bar of my page. (There's one person from the area that reads me daily...and it's making me crazy because I know not who they are but I know the general area that they come from. IP Addresses tell all)

4. Having dreams about being in your favorite place in the world, only it was raining in the dream. You would think dreams would let you have good weather, but NOOOOOOOO!

5. Because of odd issues, not being able to ask about the "vacation time." One day, that's all I want. One day. And I want it to be July 2 if possible, because I don't want to work on my 33 b-day.

6. Having no extra money at all. Yup, the bill monster is eating it all. It doesn't help matters I went on a small spending spree not to long ago that ate up the extra cash and created another bill or two. Damn!

7. Elton John's Philadelphia Freedom. Anyone that has driven anywhere near the Philly area should know that there is no freedom to be found there.

8. The Mart Of Wal for not carrying pita bread when I have about 80 different ideas for breakfast and lunch that requires it.

9. Have I mentioned that there are no good concerts coming to Pittsburgh this summer? And the ones that are coming are on days when it's not feasible for me to go to a show. You know like a Tuesday or a Thursday night. Blergh!

10. My leggies. Actually it's my thighs. Why do they have to be so damn huge? Blergh!

11. The wisdom tooth that's still driving me crazy. It's not tooth ache pain, it's teething pain. ARGH! At least the soreness etc isn't constant anymore, or I'd be calling up the dentist so I could have another debt monkey to deal with.

12. CD Universe for not getting me my Traveling Wilburys deluxe editions yesterday. I had my Paul McCartney CD the day after it was released, why not this one!!!

13. Cable tv for running restaurant ads after 9 o'clock. It's even more annoying when its an ad for Sonic which isn't anywhere near us. Uh, the closest Sonic is in southeren WV which is about a 3-4 hour drive. The other one that annoys me is IHOP. There are no IHOP's in Pittsburgh to my knowledge. The closest one is in Youngstown, OH. CRSE, are you coming to get me so I can eat all the pancakes I can until I explode soon?

Tag, I'm it

Oh I'm an "it" girl again. I love being an it girl.

I have to post these rules before I give you the facts.
Each player starts with eight random facts/habits about themselves.
People who are tagged need to write their own blog about their eight things and post these rules.
At the end of your blog, you need to choose eight people to get tagged and list their names.
Don’t forget to leave them a comment telling them they’re tagged, and to read your blog.

1. I am one of the few people out there that actually enjoys exercise. I love strength training I love taking long walks (especially if it's on the boardwalk) On the days when I don't get out to Jack's or to the lovely walking path in Monessen, PA, I feel very guilty.

2. I have an addiction to making LOL Cats. You know like those found on I Can Has Cheezeburger. I even have a community on Livejournal. It's called Silly_Catmacros

I'm especially proud of this one...

That's not my cat...but it does belong to someone I'm familiar with.

I made this one when I was feeling especially snarky.

3. I've been at my current job for nearly 4 years...but most of it wasn't full time. I'm finally eligible for my week of vacation. AND I WANT IT!

4. I buy nearly all my skin products from a website called Yves Rocher. It has the most wonderful products and it's reasonable. I've never been disappointed by anything I've ever bought from them. Plus they have the best free gifts.

5. I don't think there was ever a time when I wasn't in a book club of some sort. I used to get several of the Harlequin lines delivered to me monthly. I belong to The Literary Guild, The Science Fiction Book Club, Doubleday, The Book of The Month Club. Now I find there's only one worth belonging to. That's Zooba. I get one book a month, hard cover, of my choosing and the cost is $10.55. It doesn't get much better than that.

6. Music is my only true vice. When life is throwing me lemons...I'm more apt to splurge on a new CD or something for my mp3 player than anything else. My CD Collection is well over 3000 and I have 7000 mp3s on my computer.

7. I can never answer the question "What's your favorite band?" or "What's your favorite song?" I like too many and trying to narrow it down will give me a brain cramp that will take days to get rid of.

8. I have absolutely no self esteem at all. High school took it away from me and I never did find a way to build it up after those 4 wretched years.

As for the tagging..I'm a rebel...I'm not doing it. If you want to play along...go ahead, but let me know you did...so I can come and read your 8 things

A Little Bit Of This...A Little Bit Of That

~ Once more someone has proved that they are a fucktardalopasaurus. Its Wednesday and not even a goddamn thank you. Hell, I'd take a go away and please don't send me stuff email, because then I'd know where I stood in the grand scheme of things. So much for friendship I suppose. How depressing.

~ I'm still on my quest to snag one damn vacation day. It doesn't look like it's going to happen anytime soon. I guess I'll be working on "my" national holiday this year. (That's July 2nd for any of you wanting to get me stuff)

~ Why is it that when you buy skin care sets...the toner is used up first...then the cleanser but the moisturizer seems to be neverending? It's like the loaves and fishes. (ARGH) Honest, I moisturize twice daily and this stuff doesn't seem like it's going away. And I hate to start using something new when I have other stuff left over. Blergh!

~ This is my horrorscope...erm horoscope for the day...

Today is a great day to meditate even if you must work, but be aware that contemplation can lead you into obsessive thinking now. This is primarily because you are being lured into deep feelings that haven't yet bubbled into awareness. If you are overwhelmed or depressed, get outside and enjoy a walk. Gentle movement can help prevent your imagination from tilting in a negative direction

I better start walking now. Anyone want to come with me?

~ I have absolutely no motivation these days. Getting to the gym is about the only thing I can talk myself into doing. I'm sick of reading. I'm sick of the computer. But the only problem is...everything I want to do costs money and I'm broke. Blergh!

The La La Gods Love Me

For a mere $1.75 I'm getting on of the Gordon Lightfoot CDs that I've been looking for.

(click to buy at amazon)

Summertime Dream is just one of many Gordon CDs that I don't have, but it is the one that The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald appeared on. That's one of the main reasons that I must have this one.

I'm happy to be getting a used copy just to have it..though I know I'll end up buying a new one eventually, like I did with A Painter Passing Through, which is really a fantastic disc.

Truth be told, I have about 6 of Gordon's albums and 2 best of collections and I haven't found a horrid song on any of them. He's got a wonderful voice and is a wonderful songwriter. You really can't go wrong owning at least one of his discs.

Take Me Back Tuesday - Week 127

From the same lady @ Music Memoirs that brings you all the other great memes, ME!

What sound (genre) defined the 80's for you?
For me it was definitely the New Wave sound. I loved the British Invasion of the 80's. There were so many good bands out of the UK then, Duran Duran, Erasure, Depeche Mode, Yazoo, The Pet Shop Boys. The list could go on forever and ever. And yes, it's CHEESY POP music. I'll have some wine with my cheesy 80's music thank you very much.

What band best defines the 80's?

Hands down: Duran Duran

These guys were the 80's. (Take that U2)

Which 80's artists/bands do you like the most?
Siouxsie and the Banshees - a totally awesome gothic/new wave/punk band. Siouxsie has an incredible voice that's still going strong.

Duran Duran - If only they weren't so freaking lazy! I swear they were supposed have an album out this summer.

Erasure - Vince Clarke and Andy Bell are synthpop titans!

Elvis Costello - Snarky brilliance, n'uff said.

Crowded House - Jangly guitar goodness, combined with wonderful vocals and brilliant songwriting. They have a new album out...I can't wait for it.

Icehouse - Australian brilliance. Electric Blue and Crazy are still 2 of my favorite songs.

Depeche Mode: What can I say...People are People and Everything Counts (in large amounts)

Def Leppard: My guilty pleasure hair band. I love me some Joe Elliot.

Bonus question

Duran Duran or Wham! (for the ladies)
Well I think the answer is obvious; DURAN DURAN!!

All I Really Want To Do

Is sit in a lawn chair with a good book and my Zen and read for the rest of the day. Is that too much to ask?

Damn it, it shouldn't be.

I thought I finally had my schedule arranged so that I could have Saturdays mostly open for whatever laziness I might come up with. Last night that was shot to hell in a hand basket, wrapped in a butane blanket and grandma tossed the match in.

While I watched my dreams of a "do nothing" but sit on my butt Saturday go up in flames, I did the laundry, knowing that I'm going to be doing it again on Saturday morning.

Blergh.

Which means if I have to go to exercise, it would be best if I do it early, so that I can have the rest of the morning and afternoon to myself for my blissful nothingness.

I don't ming getting up early. I do it regardless. During the week I'm awake at the ungodly hour of 5:30 and on the weekend 7:30. What I don't like to do on the weekend is move around first thing. I like to putter on the computer and be lazy. I was doing my best to get this. I thought Monday at 4:30 was a great time to do laundry. Such wasn't the case with grandma, and I've been vetoed out of my relaxing Saturdays after only a few short weeks.

Blergh!

Now I'm going to have to be at Jack's by 9 if I decide to go so the laundry can be done by noon. And its not as if I have a whole lot of laundry. We usually do a load and a half (if that) once a week. (Gram still has a ringer washer, which is nice on my work clothes) Dad washes jeans and things throughout the week.

Big sigh

I hate laundry day.

Feeling Confessional

Yes, I have a confession to make. I love pop music. The cheesier the pop music the better. I love The Monkees, The Archies, Tony Orlando & Dawn, The Bangles, Savage Garden.

Yes, I can see everyone cringing now.

It's bad. I know, but it could be worse. I could have listed a bunch of boy bands, right? Actually I prefer the pop tarts of the 80's. I like Debbie Gibson..erm I mean Deborah Gibson and Tiffany. (At least they waited until they were fully grown to turn slutty)

Even in the 80's the boybands had an air of innocence. I think that's what I liked the most about the pop music then. There was a certain amount of innocence that's lacking in the music today.

Is there even "real" pop music anymore? Nothing is shiny or happy anymore. Everything is about sex or violence or that acoustic stuff that all sounds the same to me.

~sigh~

Even Madonna used to make pop music....now I'm not exactly sure what it is she makes. Most of the time it scares me. I long for the days when she sang Express Yourself and Material Girl.

It's not always fun to listen to serious music, if there is such a thing. Sometimes the music has to be about the fun. Perhaps that's why I love Paul McCartney so much. Silly creeps into so many of his songs. Off The Ground is still one of my favorite tunes to bounce around the house too. And I think every critic hated that one. Hell one critic in the Pittsburgh area said that Paul's first single from Memory Almost Full should have been given to Barney the dinosaur. I almost sent him a very nasty email telling him where he could stuff his words. (But I held back, be proud of me)

Heck, if you promise not to tell a certain DJ, I get immense pleasure when I hear that Yummy Yummy Yummy song.

So there it is....my shameful secret. (Though I don't think it's much of a secret) Mock me, I deserve it. And while you do it...I think I'll listen to Savage Garden.

Keeping Quiet

I think silence is one of the hardest things for me. I like communication, but right now I'm going to be silent. At least for a day or two. For purely childish reasons, of course.

What are they?

Well I want to see if someone has it in them to just email a thank you without me saying a word.

The question will be, will I be able to do that? The realistic part of me says "hell no!" Something will come up or I'll find something that I just won't be able to hold back, and I'll have to send it to him.

Blergh.

You know like that fact that Paul McCartney's Memory Almost Full is likely to be the number 1 album in the US this week. (Yeah, like he doesn't already know this)

But I'm going to hold my tongue and my typing fingers. I'm not going to do it.

He's got a package coming to him. He's got to say something then, right? I mean he wouldn't just toss them in the ....MUST STOP THINKING.

Maybe it would just be easier to email ....No.

I've put myself in a position where I look like "crazy email/fan girl" again, when I'm having an episode of "I miss my finned email buddy."

GAH!

I hate that. Best leave things unsaid. Best turn on my radio and listen to The Pickle and just listen and keep my thoughts to myself, however hard that is and hope he gets his package and enjoys the two CDs.

Random 10 - Week 109

One of my memes from Music Memoirs:

10 songs that sum up your weekend...or were on your weekend playlist...and one picture that relates back. (oh, and if you feel like it, tell us why you picked the songs you did)

My mind was on things that it shouldn't have been on most of the weekend. The songs I listened to reflect my mood. I'll upload any or all of them as long as you ask nicely.

Otis Redding - These Arms Of Mine
(Not a good song to shuffle to when exercising. I teared up on this one @ the gym. Blech)

Charlotte Martin - Haunted
(Charlotte's album On Your Shore has way too many songs that I can identify with right now.)

Ohio Express - Yummy Yummy Yummy
(I actually listened to this on my own this weekend. Shoot me! It's so bad it's good in that weird cute way)

Edison Lighthouse - Love Grows (Where My Rosemary Goes)
(Damn Pickle for playing this one. Damn them to hell. I'll be singing it for ages)

Gary Puckett & The Union Gap - Over You
(If only. If only.)

Paul McCartney & Elvis Costello - 25 Fingers
(I'm sending a copy of the McCartney MacManus Collaboration to someone, along with a mix CD)

Fleetwood Mac - Monday Morning
(I really hate this song. Really I do. At least that's what I keep trying to convince myself.)

Fountains Of Wayne - Traffic & Weather
(A little power pop is good for the soul)

Erasure - Take Me On A Highway
(That was my general feeling this weekend. If I could have gone anywhere I would have gladly gone)

The Cyrkle - Red Rubber Ball
(GET IT OUT OF MY HEAD!)

As for the picture...

I have no idea why he was in my head all weekend, but I wish he wouldn't have been. It made for an uncomfortable weekend.

Yes, Folks I Am A Tard

A few months back I was foolish enough to let my feelings out about a certain person. It all came back at me badly, very badly.

In my hurt after things came crashing down, I acted a bit childish. OK, I acted a lot childish. And the worst part of it, part of my venting was read by the person in question.

~big sigh~

I've apologized until I've turned blue in the face (or perhaps until my typing fingers have bruised) to no avail.

And I do know that ~ Sorry is a word that only ever means forgive my yesterdays

Still I wish there was a way to convey that anything I put to writing was out of anger and hurt and that it wasn't meant and that all my apologies have been sincere. And I really would like my yesterdays to be forgiven.

There's nothing worse than when a friendship comes crashing down, especially when it's a friendship that was a bit special. At least it was to me. The person in question shared some musical interests with me, which is something that brought me joy. We shared a similar sense of humor too. I enjoyed reading his emails. I looked forward to finding them in my inbox throughout the day. I also got a good deal of joy in finding his hits to my blog.

Two months have passed since this all went down and I still don't feel any better. I can't distance myself, because well, I'm a hopeless case. I like listening to his damn morning show. And though I don't listen to the whole thing anymore, I can't not listen. I hate Pittsburgh radio with the exception of The Pickle and WJPA in Washington. (WJPA only comes in on my work microwave radio) Truth be told I'd rather listen to Pickle. I'm used to it. Its familiar.

There was a time when I was comfortable on Friday morning when I called in my request. Now I feel nothing short of nervous. Maybe it's because I know I should just give it up, because nothing I do or say will change things. And lord knows I've tried just about everything and I still am, as the mix cd I posted can testify.

I've been waving an olive branch so long that my arm hurts and I have a feeling my peace offering didn't make any peace. And as Lindsey Buckingham sang in that obnoxious song that I rather miss at 6 a.m. on Monday morning... ~ Got to get some peace in my mind.

I can only offer one more plaintive "I'm sorry" and hope that it doesn't go unheard, though I know it will.

I'm A Shopping Fool

My sister and I went to Rock Bottom Brewery, because I had a $5 coupon and then we bummed around the Waterfront in Homestead. (My least favorite place in the whole world)

I've determined a few things while I was there.

Macy's is damn overpriced. I can't justify spending $20 on a tank top. That's just not right. Some of the cuter tops were close to $50. Needless to say, I didn't give my Macy's card a workout this weekend.

After we walked around the hated place I headed to Target (My favorite store in the whole world)

There I spent beaucoups of money. I got my 4th of July tank and shorts for $10. I finally bought that much needed red t-shirt for $5 too. I found a cute top and capris. Not to mention a very cute necklace and earrings set. And even better there was a lingerie sale! Yay! Never mind what I bought, but it was needed.

All in all it was a good day shopping. I had to stop myself, because Target has some of the best clothes at really reasonable prices. When I'm not buying out J.C. Penney, this is my second store of choice.

Now I have to find a way to pay off the bill I just made. That's the part that isn't fun at all.

Making A Mix

Ah the joys of mixing. I've been in a mood to do that...so at least one lucky recipient is getting one of my amusing yet odd mix cds.

Here's the cover art...

I'll let you guess who the mix is for. I bet most of you won't need many guesses.

This is the tracklisting I came up with.

Gordon Lightfoot - Inspiration Lady
Keri Noble - Watch Me Walk
Erasure - Sunday Girl
Adam Ant - Won't Take That Talk
Emm Gryner - East Coast Angel
Semisonic - Chemistry
Dar Williams - Echoes
Cheap Trick - Say Goodbye
Rachael Sage - Even Love Dies
Peter Mayer - The Introvert Song
Terami Hirsch - Little Light
Alan Frew - Healing Hands
Grey Eye Glances - Faces
Jellyfish - Baby's Coming Back
Roxette - June Afternoon
Pulp - Sorted Out Fore E's & Wizz
The Pipettes - Dirty Mind
XTC - The Mayor Of Simpleton
Shakespear's Sister - Hello (Turn Your Radio On)
Billy Bragg & Wilco - California Stars
Nick Lowe - I Trained Her To Love Me

Anyone else want a mix?

Pain! Oh the pain!

Stupid wisdom tooth. It's been about a year since the last time it decided to cause me grief. I should have known this was coming. I've known for about a month that it's finally made its way through my gums. Not entirely though, and that's why I get to suffer.

I've been taking Advil. I've been using Orajel. I know that it will likely go away in a few days, but I'm not sure I can stand the wait, especially in 90 degree heat.

If I thought I could deal with an extraction I'd be on the phone to my wonderful sado/masochistic person in a heartbeat, but extractions scare the hell out of me. The dentist can clean my teeth he just can't pull em. (Unless I'm totally out of it)

I keep thinking, $80 would be a small price to keep me from this pain once or twice a year. (It would save on the Advil to) OK, it would be more like $130, because he want to look at my teeth first, even though he saw them a little over a month and a half ago.

I just want to be able to chew normally again and get a good nights sleep. Is that too much to ask?

Top 5 On Friday - Week 127

From a girl and a fish @ Music Memoirs.

First topic...by moi.

Top 5 Psychedelic Songs

Hands down the most psychedelic song

The Moody Blues - Legend Of A Mind
(sung by flautist Ray Thomas)
He'll fly his astral plane, takes you on a trip around the bay, brings you back the same day, Timothy Leary...

The Mistress of the Dark would like to know just what in the hell an astral plane is anyway.

The Beatles - Within You, Without You
(Oddly if you asked me what my least favorite Harrison song was, this one would be it, but if you rate it on psychedelicness well it definitely tops the charts.)

Strawberry Alarm Clock - Incense and Peppermints

(I've never been quite sure that these two things should be mixed, but they do make for interesting song lyrics)

The Zombies - Time Of The Season

(3 little words, Who's your daddy!!!)

The Grass Roots - Let's Live For Today

(Everyone sing the chorus with me....Sha la la let's live for today)

Honorable mentions go to The Beatles - Strawberry Fields Forever, The Monkees - The Door Into Summer, The Moody Blues - Tuesday Afternoon, Manfred Mann - The Mighty Quinn.

Make love, not war.

As soon as I find a good recipe, I'll do a little dance and make some love. So far, I haven't found one that doesn't end up with someone getting burned.

The smilies however have had better luck than I have.

Don't trust anybody over thirty!

Oh well, I could have told anyone that asked that I wasn't to be trusted. And that goes for my finned friend too. Ah well, who can you trust anyway! Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

If it feels good, do it!
As long as it doesn't infringe on anyone else's beliefs or is against the law. Of course, make sure the person your doing it with is consenting too, because that just opens up a totally different can of worms and you may end up being a storyline for Law & Order SVU. Tell it like it is.

I usually do, and I usually end up with a size 8 foot in my mouth. Let me tell you that's not tasty.

Keep the faith!

tells you to do that at every Moody Blues concert. I just want to know what faith I'm keeping. And if I am keeping it...I think I need instructions so I don't kill the faith.

Randomosity Strikes Again

~ I bought a hard back copy of this book.

There are some pretty good hints in it, as well as recipes and exercises. Here's hoping it helps me one my quest to shrink (again). I've got an idea for a reward for myself if I hit my goal. A spa weekend at the mountaineer. (That would only be a couple of hundred dollars!) LOL! It's a good idea in theory. Unfortunately, I doubt I could ever let myself go into debt for a facial and a hotel room in WV.

~ I think Gym Hottie lives to torment me. Lately he's been exercising in my area when he's there. I wonder if drooling helps you lose weight? If it does..I should be shrinking fast.

I haven't the guts to speak to him. I don't have the guts to speak to many people. I'm no good at that. Plus if I spoke I'd just give away the fact that I'm crushing on him, and men that look like GH never give me a second glance. What the hell am I talking about, NO men ever give me a second glance.

Why do you have to be 100 lbs and blonde to get noticed by the good looking men. Curse my nearly black hair! And curse the fact that I've never been able to titter.

~ I now own 2 copies of Memory Almost Full. I have the regular CD version and the Special Edition. OK, Paulie, where's my thank you for helping pay off the nasty wench you're divorcing.

~ I got that Wilson Phillips CD from LaLa yesterday and it's quite surprising how good it actually is. I expected to be horrified with every track, but honestly the girls did a great job. I'm not as keen on their reworkings of the tracks made famous by their parents, but all in all it was a good effort. They managed to make some of the tracks sound different without murdering the songs and my memories of the songs. So woot! It was a well spent $1.75

~ One of my cats is having a hairballfest in my room. I have no idea which one it is, but every morning I find a rather disgusting present on my floor.

~ I'm reading a strange book by George MacDonald call The Fisherman's Lady. It's less than 300 pages and its taking me forever to read. It's just not holding my interest. That's what happens when I try to read "literature" during the work week. My brain cramps up and says no! Basically I should have learned by now that only fluff should enter my brain before Friday at 4 p.m.

Where Did All My Friends Go

I hate that my closest friends are either married and far away or just far away. It's very hard to be 32...well almost 33 and single. Marriage seems to take away anything in common that these people have with their single friends.

There's one person in town that I could call, but I don't bother, because what do I have to talk about with a woman that's been married for 10 years and has 2 kids. At some point that's what becomes her life. And that's not my life, so conversation would be stilted.

This all makes for a very lonely girl and a girl that depends way too much on her computer for companionship.

Blergh!

I found this icon on a friend's livejournal. Damn it hits way too close to home.

I never wanted to be a person like that. Then the computer came into my life...and suddenly it was my connection with the outside world, more so than the telephone. I think I can safely say, my best friend is someone I've never met and who I talk to online on a daily basis.

Another sad fact I've learned, you can't make someone like you or be friends with you. So I guess I'll just sit here in front of my computer and ponder how my life became so dependent on this stupid plastic box.

Take Me Back Tuesday - Week 126

From the ladies @ Music Memoirs

1967 is the year....

What albums would you be spinning...or did you spin (depending on your age)

At the end of the year...

The Moody Blues - Days Of Future Passed which will celebrate 40 years in December

(click to buy at amazon)

Donovan - Mellow Yellow which celebrated 40 years in March

(click to buy at amazon)

The Monkees - Headquarters released a week before Sgt Pepper...so it only saw 1 week at number one.

(click to buy at amazon)

And of course

The Beatles Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band

(click to buy at amazon)

The Monkees or The Beatles...which would be..or which was your favorite band or do you like them both.
I love both bands. The Beatles are superior of course, because they are true artists, but the Monkees have shown over the years that they are worthy of a place in the annals of music history, as one of the most lovable bands of all time. Plus they really did have talent when they were allowed to use it. I love me some Fab and Pre-Fab Four.

What song do you think sums up the feeling of the Summer Of Love the best?

The Beatles - All You Need Is Love

Love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love.
There's nothing you can do that can't be done.
Nothing you can sing that can't be sung.
Nothing you can say but you can learn how to play the game
It's easy.
There's nothing you can make that can't be made.
No one you can save that can't be saved.
Nothing you can do but you can learn how to be in time
It's easy.
All you need is love, all you need is love,
All you need is love, love, love is all you need.
Love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love.
All you need is love, all you need is love,
All you need is love, love, love is all you need.
There's nothing you can know that isn't known.
Nothing you can see that isn't shown.
Nowhere you can be that isn't where you're meant to be.
It's easy.
All you need is love, all you need is love,
All you need is love, love, love is all you need.
All you need is love (all together now)
All you need is love (everybody)
All you need is love, love, love is all you need.

Happy Memory Almost Full Day!

If you haven't preordered the new McCartney CD, well shame on you, because you should. It's fan-freaking-tastic!

So for those of you that haven't ordered it already...

(click to buy on amazon)

Seriously, if you are even a casual McCartney fan, and I don't know how anyone can be, you'll want this record. It's more rocking than Chaos & Creation with just enough pop to it, so that you don't forget who you're listening to.

Now buy it damn it! Paul needs all the money he can get to help pay for his divorce to she who's name I can't mention without saying something really nasty.

And since I'm celebrating Paul today....I can't think of anything better to do then share some lovely pictures.

I'm So Ashamed

I'm getting this Wilson Phillips CD from LaLa. Don't tell anyone.

I loved their debut album. It came out when I was in high school. There was absolutely nothing ground breaking to it. It was just a bunch of pretty songs. Plus I always wanted to have Chynna Phillips' hair cut.

For those of you that aren't familiar with the band, Chynna's the one with the short blonde hair. Mind you, I don't want to be a blonde, I just wanted the haircut.

But back to this album. It's a covers album. That's one of the reasons I had to have it.

Yes, I like torture. They covered some songs that no artist should try covering. They covered songs by their parents' respective bands. (The Beach Boys and The Mamas and The Papas) Then they covered...gasp....Fleetwood Mac...and Jackson Browne.

Yes, I like to listen to things that are train wrecks. But the way I see it, it's only $1.75. It can't be any worse than Duran Duran's Thank You album. That was so wretched, I don't even know where my copy is. And hey, if it really sucks, it wasn't a huge loss.

It Was 40 Years Ago Today Just Doesn't Sound Right

Some of you might be wondering why I haven't commented on Friday's 40th anniversary of Pepper. I think the only answer I can give to that is that there's nothing to say about it. Nothing is done to commemorate it that's worth mentioning. It would have been nice if they could have finished the remastering the CD for this occasion. (I believe they aimed for the same release date when the first CD version came out in 1987)

In 87 there were interviews all over the place. You couldn't go anywhere without a mention of Pepper. Not that Pepper wasn't mentioned anywhere yesterday. The Post Gazette had a lovely feature on it...and the Fishy did a focus on the songs during the Friday Free For All. And the blogging community was quite obnoxious about it, which is why I didn't post about it, really.

It's a shame Pepper isn't one of my favorite Beatles albums. It never has been. It's always been a summer album for me too, when I've felt like listening to it. It conjures up images of sweltering heat and a general feeling of uncomfortableness. I guess that's part of the reason I don't play it much.

Perhaps if I had been alive in 67 when it was released I could feel differently about this record. I can't take away that it was groundbreaking in its time and that it was influential in the music scene and still is. However it just leaves me with a ho-hum kinda feeling when I listen. I get very little joy from Pepper. That doesn't mean you shouldn't own it, because everyone should own Pepper or at least listen to it once in their lifetime. For me, I prefer the two albums prior to Pepper, Rubber Soul and Revolver.

Pepper does bring me joy in one way though. It has some great photos.

Oh look...here's one..
