I Started A New Meme Today

I have a new feature on my book blog. I hope that some of my bookish friends will take part in it.  It is called TBR Thursday or To Be Read Thursday. You can find out more about my new meme here and check out three books that are currently on my super massive To Be Read pile.

Plus if you do check the site out, you can see that I don't always read smut.

I read a lot of smut, I'll admit, but it isn't all smut!

Tuesday Tunes: Week 152

From Music Memoirs

1. What is your favorite music video? The Moody Blues - Your Wildest Dreams: This video has always been my favorite. Sure there are other great videos, but none as wonderful as this one for me.

2. Do you think that videos are as important today as they were when Mtv started out?
No, not at all, at least not in the way that videos were in the 80s. I find it hard to believe that artists still spend hundreds of thousands and even millions of dollars on them. Mtv seldom plays videos these days and most video viewing is done on a PC. Somehow that doesn't really seem to make watching them feel all that fun anymore.

3. In your opinion, which artist consistently does or did the best videos?
Hands down, Madonna. Say what you will about her music but her videos have always been talked about. I'm sure if she lasts Lady Gaga can be included, but right now, Madge is the woman to beat. You can't take away all the talk and controversy over the videos for Like A Prayer,  Justify My Love and Open Your Heart.

Plus how many women can get away with wearing their underwear as outerwear? Madonna made it cool, even if it became obnoxious.

Top 5 albums you'd recommend to a friend

Space CampYou guys know the drill. Play along in the comments or in your journal. This meme is created for my site Music Memoirs. Feel free to go there and check out my other weekly memes and play along.

1. Loomis and the Lust - Space Camp

I reviewed this EP for Mossip a few weeks back and it is really great, especially if you are a fan of 80s music. All the tracks on this one are good. That's rare these days.  It is definitely worth the $5.00 to download it from Amazon or iTunes.

Harmony2. Gordon Lightfoot - Harmony

This is probably the last album of new material we'll see from Gordon. From what I've heard at concerts, he's mostly concentrating on touring.

He told me that this album was thrown together really quickly but if you give it a listen, you'd never guess. One of my favorite Lightfoot tunes is on this album and that's Inspiration Lady. Sure his voice isn't as strong as it was 20 years ago, but it is still good, and this album is more than worth the money to listen to it.

Fight Like a Girl3. Bombshel - Fight Like A Girl

This is acutally some pretty good country pop for people that like Sugarland, The Dixie Chicks and SheDaisy.

Its a little more country sounding than Lady A, but its fresh and fun and not really so twangy as to annoy.  My best description is Gloriana and SheDaisy only without the guys on vocals. Fresh and young, but not tween sounding. Dose that make any sense at all?
Spirit and Skin

4. Judd Starr - Spirit and Skin
I can list many reasons besides his talent that any red blooded female should take.

Oh mylanta this man is gorgeous and he can sing.

There are so many good songs on this album, What If I'm Fine, Please Penny and Borrow You.  He's another artist with a bit of an 80s vibe. This was truly one of my favorite albums of 2008.

Pandora's Box5. Nu Shooz Orchestra - Pandora's Box

Another album I reviewed at Mossip and a really great one too. A little bit jazz, a little bit chill out and a whole lot of mystery.

This duo has come a long way since their days as a new wave band in the 80s. Pandora's Box is a must listen!

Click on the album covers to get more info on each of my choices!

2. Elvis Costello - I'm Not Angry: No I'm not..I'm just pissed off and Elvis is bitter.

Missing Mondays: Where Are My Goggies

rThe neighbor's Sharpeis are gone! I've heard rumors that he had fines from the code enforcement officer and he had to get rid of them. I haven't seen Bella, Bear or Layla in days.

I'm heartbroken.

I loved those dogs. I gave them treats and lovins' almost every day.

This is Bella, my treat lovin' goggie!

The neighbors dogs

I miss them so much! Why take the dogs, the guy has 30 freaking chickens and turtles in the yard! Grrr!

2. We Are Golden
3. Lollipop
4. Lover Boy

2. Three Dog Night: Old Fashioned Love Song: This is also an earworm.

3. Gordon Lightfoot - Old Dan's Records: I love this song, and I also love that Gordon still plays this one regularly in concert.

4. Glass Tiger - Ancient Evenings: One of my favorite 80s bands and this is a stunning song.

5. The Beatles - When I'm Sixty-Four: I don't know, something about the two remaining Beatles being over 64 makes me think old :(.

Missing Mondays

I miss my metal window fan. It was ancient as you might have guessed, because all fans seem to be made of nothing but plastic these days.

Two words for you: PLASTIC SUCKS!

This old fan could cool down my room better than an air conditioner.

It died last year, damn it and the fan that replaced it doesn't do half the job this one did. It is not fair at all.

Why does everything have to made out of plastic?

I really think it has to be the joy factor. You know, "Joy, I'm not allowed to have any."

Grrr.

I really miss that fan.

Top 5 songs that get you ready for the weekend.

You guys know the drill. Play along in the comments or in your journal. This meme is created for my site Music Memoirs. Feel free to go there and check out my other weekly memes and play along.

1. Mika - We Are Golden: This song just makes me want to sing, dance and be happy. I could listen to it forever. OK, I could listen to any Mika song forever, but I love this one the most.

2. Roxette - Here Comes The Weekend: It is a kind of obvious choice, but Roxette were always one of my favorite bands in high school. I've always loved playing them in the car and this one always prepares me for road trips, that always come on the weekend.

3. The Moody Blues - Ride My See Saw: OK, I know I'm the only one that gets a pervy picture from this song, but nevermind that. This song is so upbeat and rocking it really is a Moody weekend song, besides the one they did in the 80s with the same title as the Roxette track.

4. Duran Duran - Electric Barbarella: This is one of my favorite DD singles from the last 20 years. It is super playful which is how I want to feel on the weekends.

5. Erasure - I Love Saturday: Title says it all, doncha think?

Missing Mondays

Sometimes I really wish I were a kid again. Usually when my nephew laments not being an adult. I've never quite understood why we force our kids into adulthood these days, filling their schedules until they are little mini-robots. Hell, most kids I know don't really know how to play at all, unless it involves an electronic game of some sort.

~sigh~

Right now I long for summer vacation. 2.5 blissful months without a care in the world. To just lay around on a deck chair and read. Its not fair that you only get lazy time two times in your life when you are young and when you retire.

It doesn't seem fair. I only have 5 days of vacation a year and 1 was used for my dad's surgery and another day is going to be used for an unpleasant procedure I have to have done on my birthday, one that I'll be paying for, but that will get me started on my health care rant...and its too early in the morning for that.

Damn I wish I was a kid again. Just so long as its not the summer I had to read 3 classic novels that weren't fun reads at all.
