Busy Busy Busy

I've been work...

And I'll be working for the rest of the month.

But Wednesday when I had the time, I got some of my early spring flowers in. Aren't they adorable?

Blooms in my yard

Its In Bloom

I'm truly amazed that the peace lily managed to bloom under my care. I'm not known for having a green thumb.

But look how pretty it is!

I'm so proud of myself. I knew a bloom was coming but I'm really excited now that its finally come to flower and that I can see another one shooting up.

Yes, I'm easily amused.

But how can I not be amused, I really thought that after 5 months this plant would be dead.

The Peace Lily Is Blooming

I don't know how I managed not to kill this almost tree sized plant in the last five months, but I haven't and its actually thriving.

Most of you know that it was given to my family when grandma passed away in April. No one really knew what to do with it.

I took it upon myself to baby it and now I'm reaping my rewards. There is a blossom. Its not open but last night I saw that it wasn't just a new leaf.

I'm so excited.

I didn't think the plant would survive this long in my care, but maybe I have just a little bit of the green thumb my gram had with house plants. I like that idea. It couldn't hurt to be more like grandma, she was a wonderful lady. I would be proud to be more like her.

There will be more pictures when it is completely blooming and well I'll be full of myself with pride then.

What Kind Of Flower Is This?

The Sweet Williams have taken over most of our yard, but then there's this strange flower that cropped up between the Williams and the rose bush.



The first one I spied was pulled because it looked like a week, but for some reason I left another to grow and now its blooming!

I wish I knew what it was, because I know I didn't plant it and I've never seen anything like it before.

Flower Shopping

My nephew Michael and I went out last night to wrap up the shopping for our flower gardens. Plus he owed me a few plants for Mother's Day, because I'm his godmother.

So we went to a small eatery in Rostraver called The Roadside and had their $4.99 spaghetti dinner and then we went over to Martin's to look at plants.

Let's just say I went into a flower coma. Between the 2 of us, we spent $34 on flowers. Yikes!

My African Daisy

Every year I buy an African daisy when I go to McShane's greenhouse in Rostraver for my spring flowers. I've had pink ones, yellow ones and red ones in the past. This is the first time I've seen orange, so needless to say, that's the one I had to get.

I was actually surprised that there were only a few African daisies this year. Usually they have quite a few. It's pretty early in the season too. I hate to buy them elsewhere because I've only had luck with the plants I've got from McShane's. Last year I even had one seed a new plant.

Maybe they weren't ready yet. I hope that was the case, because I like to have at least two of them in the garden.

I need to go back again soon for my annuals. I also need to go to Martin's to see if there are any hibsicus, because I think my father may have cut them a little to low.

Ah well that just gives me an excuse to buy another one. It also gives me an excuse to take some photos of all the gorgeous plants they have at both of these florists.

A Flowery Day

I spent the better part of this afternoon at the Spring Flower Show at Phipps Conservatory in Pittsburgh today. I'm seriously a flower show freak. I don't know why. I suppose it was from all those shows I was dragged to when I was small. There was a long gap where we never went, but now that I have a digital camera, I want to go again and again.

I haven't a green thumb. My only talents are writing and making mix cds...oh and annoying people. So I can't explain my enjoyment of these floral escapades.

There's also a picture of a Mini Cooper in the album, cos I had to snap a shot so I could send it to Erin, as she has the biggest Mini fetish of anyone I know. The building in the pictures is the Cathedral of Learning...aka the big penis in the sky.

If you look at it for awhile, you'll understand why I (and others) call it that.
