A Whole Day Off

 I went to Ohiopyle today.

It never got out of the teens in the mountains.

Fekking cold is what I'd call it, but the Yough looked beautiful because it was sunny and glorious.

A wonderful day all around..

Some highlights

The Scenic Overlook on Route 40 heading up the huge ass mountain, just before the Summit Inn

The Cucumber Falls and the lovely frozenness

The main falls area and the Yough just past the falls heading down towards the Cucumber Falls

Views from the GAP Trail

The Baughman Overlook. Needless to say I didn't stand at that railing but at a point to the right because I could walk up in the snow, thus not killing myself today! YAY!

Mill Run Windfarm aka, Andrea is obsessed with windmills as much as she is with Jeff Minchau. LOL You thought I'd post something without mentioning him! Ha!

You can actually see 2 of the other Somerset County windfarms from this one. The view here is spectacular!

Next up, East Park Falls in Connellsville, PA

Random Photo Post

I'm quite surprised at the quality of photos my cell phone takes some time. These shots were taken a few weeks ago, when I was stuck doing my laundry in Monongahela. While I waited for everything to dry, I took a short walk. It was early morning and I was really awestruck by the steeple at the Methodist church.

The early morning light really made it look beautiful.

Another Vintage Picture

This is a photo of my Grandma Anna, my dad's mum. I never knew her, because she passed away 11 or 12 years before I was born.

The first thing I thought when I saw this picture was "Boy does she look rough!"

But then, she had 10 children and lived in a coal mining town.

So I guess looking rough was the thing.

Having seen the photos of my dad's family, I am now quite happy to say that I look more like the Rehula/Wasicek side of the family.

Is that bad of me?

Probably.

I Want To Remember

I keep thinking about how few photographs of family we have from recent years, especially on my father's side of the family.  When I was little, I can remember going with my mom and dad to my aunt and uncle's home in Belle Vernon.

I remember sitting at the kitchen table with mom and dad drinking iced tea. I remember playing with Duchess, the big German Shepard that was one of many Duchesses.  What makes me sad, are there are no pictures.

Knowing how ill my uncle is, made me think about photos. My grandmother had hundreds of them in her house from younger days.  Even though there wasn't much call for photography in her last years, there were still pictures, from family gatherings and her 100th birthday party.  There are things that can be pulled out so that people down the line can say, that was Grandma Rehula.  Her face won't fade from memory.

However with my dad's family there aren't many pictures.  I was an adult before I saw a photo of my grandma and grandpap from my father's family. There was a picture of Grandpap Rehula on my grandmother's TV at all times. That picture now sits in our living room.  I never knew my grandfather, but I can see  his face clearly in my mind.

There is nothing like this from my dad's family. There are a few photos from family reunions in the 80s when I was a little girl, but other than that, nothing and yet my dad came from a large family.  The sad part is, though I've met most all of them, I can't remember the faces of the ones who have passed on, with only one exception.

I know a lot of people dislike having their picture taken. I'm one of them, but people down the line might want to remember you, so maybe the pain of that flash isn't so bad.  I don't want to be gone and forgotten.

Photos Of All Fids!

There's a new meme in town! This one is called Photos Of All Fids

This is where we share pictures of our "furry kids"

Since I have more furry kids than most people, I'll share a few pictures.

Weekend Photos.

I'm thoroughly exhausted from my weekend and I'm glad I took today off work, because I don't think I could have survived today without falling asleep on my desk. That's how exhausted I am, and I won't even get into the fact that my sinuses are having such fun with me as a result of this goofy ass weather we've been having.

Oh and besides the fun my weekend was plagued with annoyances.

1. A stone hit the windshield on the rental car and put a nice little nickel sized ding in it. This was Saturday. I wanted to cry.

2. Yesterday I went to put on a pretty top I bought for the concert, but had to toss one of the cats in the basement. The cat kicked and a huge hole appeared in my top. I seriously cried over that.

Now for the pictures

Beautiful Roses

I went to the Renziehausen Rose Garden yesterday and oh were the roses beautiful. I got to use my new Nikon for the first time for things other than, well the cats and a few flower pictures from my garden.

Check out the set here.

There's nothing nicer than a walk through a flower garden to calm the nerves and brighten the day. Its a shame I can't go back today, because in the first 3 hours I've been awake things have been a bit topsy turvy.

Enjoy the pictures!

Rockapella!

OMG Awesome is about all I can say. This was a quality show for $30. And we were about 5 rows back from the stage. (Actual 3rd row of seats in the theater though)

No Flash photography was allowed but, let me tell you, my camera did well without the flash, since we were that close.

Most of my photos can be found here.

A full review of the show will be posted on my music community on LJ in the coming days. I promise to post a link when its ready. Right now I'm just too darn tired to do much of anything, besides share my pictures.

This was the first show in a long time where my brain said, you love the guys, but you can't stay for a signing. I feel bad about that, but I know that my body would hate me this morning, if I had. It already does.

Enjoy the pictures, and if you ever want to hear a great acapella singing group, see Rockapella if they come to your town. You won't regret it.

Kitten Photoshoot

Most of you shouldn't even have to ask what I do with my time after I get home from work. Its computer time, reading, tv or play with kittens. Mostly its play with kittens, because they are just too darn cute to be ignored.

Rumor has it they are going to start charging me for photographing them. I think the last I heard, it was $100,000 or a 20 lb bag of Science Diet kitten food.

Those kittens really drive a hard bargain.

Momma kitty gets a percentage too, because she created all the cuteness.

Calvary Cemetary

It took most of the night to sort through my mess but I did get the pictures uploaded as you might have been able to tell.

Here's one shot from the batch.

If you want to see the rest click here.

Calvary is a very small cemetery in Charleroi, located on a rather nasty windy hill. When the sun is shining the cemetery looks just like any other. But add some wind and a cloudy sky and I'm betting just about anyone can get a chill or two from looking at some of the old stones. Come to think of it, if you really wanted to give someone the creeps take them there and play some Midnight Syndicate soundscapes and they'll probably run down the hill so fast that they'll remind you of the roadrunner!

Vintage Photos

I can't think much right now, so I thought I'd share a link to some vintage photos of my family that I've been scanning. Clicky here to see them.

This one is of my grandmother and the grandfather that I didn't get the chance to know, as he died in 1967. I hope she's telling him all about me right now.

They were quite a lovely couple, weren't they?

She loved him so much. I don't remember her talking about him to me much, but in drawers I found cards she gave to him for birthdays and a card he gave her. Such sweetness, such love.

They spent 41 years apart. Now they are together again.

~sigh~

I know I'm selfish but I want her with me.

Photography

I was going through some of my older photos today. I love finding the pictures I took when I first got my digital camera, a very simple point and shoot Kodak Easyshare. I loved that camera to death. My nephew has it now that I've upgraded to 2 Zoom versions of the Easyshare.

It's the one hobby I have that I seriously wish I could do semi-professionally, but then again who wants pictures of animals and cityscapes? I could never do portrait photography. I hate taking pictures of people, mostly because I know most people are like me and they are always dissatisfied with photos of themselves.

I like photos of scenery of things of beauty or interest. But mostly I like to take pictures of my pets! See:

Purrbee the nice little dog.

My sweet little Misty, who I miss more than words can say.

I think there should be a future in random pet pictures! And yes, I do dream a lot!

I Wonder

If Santa will bring me what I want for Christmas this year.

100_0563

Not the most flattering picture of me, but hey this was pre-weight loss, so what can you expect.

Now Santa Baby about that Christmas list....you don't have to slip a sable under the tree for me. But Santa Baby...fill my stocking with a duplex and checks (not the mix) sign your x on the line.

Come to think of it...that 54' Convertible, light blue might be a better ride than the 91 Rusty Chevrolet that I currently drive.

C'mon Santa Baby....one more little thing, a ring, and I don't mean on the phone.

OK, I'll stop killing that song. I just hope Santa is good to me.

Me at 7

I thought everyone could use a good laugh, and since I was doing some serious cleaning, putting together some cube cabinets today, I thought I'd share a couple of photos I found in the process.
