It Was 6 Years Ago Today

That the world lost George Harrison. What a sad day this is indeed. It's a day that I try to forget about, truth be told. I hate being reminded, but I belong to too many Beatley sites not to be.

I miss George.

Even now, a full 6 years since his death, it's hard to accept. He was my favorite Beatle. I have all his solo material on one format or another, and yes, Bilbo, The Concert For Bangledesh is even on 8-track. I didn't buy that one though. It was found, back when my stereo had an 8-track deck. I still need to get that one on CD, even though it's one I probably won't listen to much.

What's the hardest is knowing that I'll never hear any new George Harrison songs. I wish Olivia would unearth something that he had done or put some of the b-sides or something on an album. I know when they remastered the Dark Horse albums, some songs didn't get added that should have. I'm still sad that the only copy of Lay His Head is on the Got My Mind Set On You single and on a bootleg. That was such a beautiful song. Have a listen.

Lay His Head

George, I miss you and your wonderful voice.

I needed this song...

I found myself shedding a few teardrops tonight for silly "girlie" reasons. Then I remembered the song from George Harrison's Somewhere In England CD.

(click to buy @ amazon)

Teardrops was one of my favorite songs from this CD. If I remember correctly it openeds side 2 of the vinyl album. Yes, I still have vinyl. I'm pretty sure I wore out one of them just because I played that song over and over, though it was always one of my favorite Harrison albums.

I shed a few tears when it was reissued with a different cover. I'm not fond of the picture that replaced the original.

This was the original and the only cover, changing it seems like someone said there was something wrong with the original, and that's not the case.

This was a beautiful cover and George looked so...well like George. The new cover is just a picture. There's nothing exciting about it. I'd love to know why the switch was made.

So I've been listening to the album, and it's actually made me feel better. My own teardrops have stopped for the time being, which is a good thing. I've even found myself singing at the top of my lungs to a few of the tracks on this one. So all in all, my tears weren't for nothing. (This time)

When They Fall

Pattie Boyd Harrison Clapton has an autobiography coming out in the UK in August. I must have it, however I know it's going to cause me great pain when it comes to reading it.

George Harrison was and always will be my favorite Beatle. I'm sure when I read this book all my illusions about the man I crushed on for most of my teenage years will be ruined. I've read some stuff about George already that made me sigh and wish I hadn't read it.

I hate when that happens.

I have a bad tendency of putting people up on pedestals and when they do something that makes me shake my head sadly, they tumble down.

So I'm hoping Pattie dishes more on Eric Clapton, a rock god that I truly can't stand, even though I've loved some of his music. Hell at one time I even crushed on Eric...and saw him in concert at the Civic Arena in Pittsburgh...but when Eric came down off the pedastal he crashed and burned. I have no respect for the man now. Everything I've read about him points to him being a world class sleaze bag and that ruins the music for me.

I don't want George to tumble like that. I can deal with him cheating at every turn. After all, in his position it would be damn hard not to be unfaithful, though knowing that he probably "did" just about any female that was still moving kinda makes me wonder. But hey...the 60's were about "Free Love." Damn it, I miss out on all the good stuff.

Because of these feelings alone, I should stay aways from Pattie's book, but I can't. Pattie's always intrigued me. I want to hear her story. I never thought she was incredibly beautiful, but she was cute with her bucktoothed grin, and she's an extremely talented photographer, which makes her my official idol.

I will shell out $40 for this book in August and I will try to read it with an open mind and pray that I don't have to pick up the pieces of my idol and that I can put it down without anger or disgust at George. Again...I can feel anger and disgust for Eric, because that's no different than the way I feel now.

I'm so glad there haven't been any books written about my Moody guys.
