O Christmas Tree

Well, I finally got the tree up.

One of them.

The question now, is how long will it stay up.

The little grey kitten has been living in its branches for a few days.

Today I finally put ornaments on it, and said a prayer that the thing will last til Christmas.

One more tree to go!

I'm going to go for bows and dollar store ornaments to be on the safe side!

Monday Monday Go Away

I'm not ready for Monday.

I didn't get any time to myself.

It is 10:30 and I'm still doing laundry.

I haven't started the holiday mix CD.

I've just about finished buying the baking stuff for all my cookies.

Still unsure of what's going to happen with the trees, since I now have a kitty climber. No joke, I've had a cat since I was in college, and I've had multiple cats just as long and none of them bothered the tree until now. ARGH!

I'm tired, I'm cranky and I get no time to myself.

No one helps me.

No one does anything.

I really can't take it anymore.

I haven't been to a concert in 2 years. I have't been to a mall in over a year. I haven't even been to a flipping Target...in...I don't know how long.

This is not right!!!!

I demand a do over on my life.

Weekends Suck

I'm not saying I didn't get anything accomplished so far, because that would be a lie. I got a lot of my baking stuff bought. I even put the tree up. I didn't decorate it yet, I just assembled it. I'm giving the cats time to get used to the idea of a tree standing in the room. So far only one cat has decided to climb it. That's a first actually. Smokey thought the tree was a fun place to be though. Such fun! Now I'm going through cooking magazines. I'm trying to get rid of some because, well, I'm just sick of everything. I just want someone to send me a garbage dumpster and have it parked right below a window so I can just start tossing stuff. I don't care whose stuff it is, I want to toss it all. I would just like this house to look semi-decent once in my life. I think that is an impossibility. Unless of course I won the lottery.

I'm Making A List

I'm sitting at my computer typing up all the Christmas Cookies I plan to make and the ingredients each needs, so that I can do my shopping in one swoop. That's pretty smart of me, isn't it? Aren't you proud. So far I'm up to about 5 different kinds of cookies. No, make that 6, I've added Christmas biscotti to the list. I might do Florentine's again and the Oreo Cream Cheese Cookies too. What are your favorite holiday cookies?

The Big News Of The Week

Duchess Catherine (note I don't call her Kate Middleton) is pregnant. Big whoop tee do. Sure she's going to produce the heir to the throne of England, but geeze that kid is actually 4th in line to the throne..after Grandpap Charles and his daddy. It doesn't seem much to get excited about. Plus poor mom to be is puking her guts (and mind you, Catherine doesn't have much in that area) up with an extreme case of morning sickness. Such sickness sending her to the hospital, and giving the media cause to speculate she may have twins! GAH! What a way to produce the sibling rivalry from hell. Cos the kid that comes out second is not going to be happy about that. However, I'd rather hear about Kate's pregnancy woos over the Fiscal Cliff that our inept Congress is about to send us over. How about we push all of them off the cliff and start over?

I love British TV, but BBC America doesn't really like to play much of it.

I'm sick of Top Gear and anything with Gordon Ramsey.

Oh and why do they play Star Trek? Having Patrick Stewart in the cast does not make it something that should be on BBC America.

I want something interesting.

I don't want more crap reality shows.

Don't we have enough of those already?

Miranda is starting back on the 26th of December, and it sucks that getting to watch it is next to impossible, because god forbid BBC America play any comedies anymore.

I think the last comedies they aired where The Catherine Tate Show and Little Britain, and that was back when Catherine was the companion on Doctor Who...and that was uh...a few years ago!!!!

Dad's been to the hospital twice today.

Once at midnight, and he was released at 2:30 and then a few hours later.

He's going to have a short stay.

Here's hoping we can keep all our sanity until he comes home.

This Is What I've Done With My Holiday Weekend

1. Stuffed my face with too much food.

2. Watched Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter and Arthur Christmas

3. Did a whole lot of nothing and slept in very strange patterns.

4. Actually got to the Y a few times, but that did nothing to cancel out all the food I consumed in the last 4 days.

5. Slept in the damn chair and gave myself back pain.

5. Played with the kittens

Yup I lead such an exciting life!

Black Friday Is Just Wrong

I think I was raised right. We never did any shopping on Black Friday, except maybe if we needed groceries.

Every time I see people out on Black Friday, I can't help but think about how greedy we've all become. Sure the toy shoppers are out there getting gifts for their kids. I'm still pretty sure that it is status stuff too, that makes mom and dad look good and not trying to get something because your child really really wants it.

When I was little it was Cabbage Patch Dolls.

Guess what?

I never got one for Christmas, and I'm still here.

I did eventually get one..but it was long past the insanity of it all.

When it comes to electronics on Black Friday that is all about greed. Lining up to get iPods, TVs, Computers.

Really?

I guess we were poor, because in my family,  you didn't buy people TVs for Christmas.

In fact in all my Christmases. The one thing I got that brought me the most joy was this doll: Baby Soft Sounds. I wish I still had her, I loved her so much.

I like Christmas to be simple...family, good food, great music, and pretty decorations...the stuff will always be there.

When Rock Stars and Politicians Collide

I had a nightmare last night.

It was one of those dreams that stays in your mind but not completely. I know what people were in it, but I can't really tell you a whole lot about what was going on or why.

Nick Rhodes from Duran Duran was in the dream and John Boehner.

Yeah, this is nightmarish stuff.

Not Nick Rhodes, I'd welcome him in my dreams anytime, but John Boehner. That is someone that I never want to appear in my dreams/nightmares ever again.

I could accept this kind of dream if I had taken Nyquil or Tylenol PM, but nope, this is something my mind came up with on its own!

Watching M*A*S*H

My Sunday nights almost always seem to revolve around the 4077. I'm not sure why. Maybe it is because I harbor a strange crush on Alan Alda's Hawkeye.

Tonight they aired the first episode with Sherman Potter. I have to admit, I've seen many episodes of this show, when they were actually on, when I was a wee bitty girl and in re-runs, but I never saw the epi Change Of Command.

I have seen the epi where Henry Blake leaves though a few dozen times.

There were so many cast changes in that show, a lot of the early ones because of Alan Alda really stealing the spotlight from the other actors.

Ah well.

Still it is good TV, something there isn't much of these days.

A World Without Twinkies?

I'm trying to grasp what a world without Twinkies, Ho-Ho's and Suzi-Qs will be like, if Hostess Bakery liquidates starting tomorrow.

I don't know about you, but the world is starting to seem a whole lot more bleak!

I mean, this is worse than The Fiscal Cliff the idjits in Washington are ready to jump from!

I mean, life without Twinkies?

It is hardly a life worth living.

They were actually one snack cake that you could have for dessert that didn't make you feel too guilty. (Except when you're at an amusement park eating them deep fried!)

Diet Is Die with at T

This is the post where I whine about being fat and give the world a lot of excuses why nothing works for me anymore.

Allow me to start whining now.

1. I have to cook for 5 to 6 people nearly ever day. Weight Watchers TV dinners aren't an option for me anymore.

2. Because of the nature of my parents illnesses, I don't get to leave the house much. I used to go the Y a few times a week, I'm lucky if I get there once now.

3. My dad has a sweet tooth, which means I tend to back a lot.

4. Every day when I come home from work, he wants a freaking McChicken! That ultimately ends up with me getting something too. ARGH!

My life is one big stress bubble and unfortunately I eat when I'm stressed.

Ear Worms

You know, I have to say most songs that get stuck in my head are songs I've heard on the radio multiple times.

What really drives me crazy is when a song that I've not even listened to somehow manages to work its way inside my mind.

That is truly annoying.

Sometimes you just have to mention a song and it gets stuck in your head. You know, like Barry Manillow's Mandy.

ARGH!

The power of suggestion is really a nasty thing.

So please don't mention Taylor Swift around me...cos I'm really sick of that Never Ever Ever Gonna Get Back Together song...it is the most horrific piece of musical trash ever, and once it gets in your head, it is a total parasite, it won't leave!!

Sundays Aren't My Fundays

For those of you that are used to my Sunday night rants, you can move along, there's nothing to see here.

Same rant, different week.

All I want is a weekend where I can REST.

I'm pretty sure that's never ever ever going to happen and I will be eternally cranky on Sundays.

I can't even sit in Starbucks and enjoy a damn coffee. I have to grab it and go.

I need a vacation from my life. Somewhere I can go with just a few books, a pot of coffee and a pillow, where I don't have to worry about cleaning potty chairs, and filling pill bottles. Just for one stinking lousy day.

But do you know what?

It isn't going to happen, because no one can be bothered to learn anyone's pills besides me.

ARGH!

Pictures, I Love 'Em & I Hate 'Em

I was cleaning again today and I came across a lot of old photos.

Lots!

The problem is, these photos were just laying about or in their envelopes.

They had no place to go.

I love looking at old photos, but I hate trying to find places for them.

I think that's one of the reasons I like digital photography so much. I can view the photos at any time. I can get prints or books etc made of them, or even a fancy digital frame that lets me see many pictures, but without the clutter.

I can't take the clutter anymore.

There's so much stuff in this house that doesn't need to be here, and getting rid of it...either to the garbage or to goodwill is driving me to the brink.

I wish I could just put a big garbage bin outside the house and just start chucking everything in.

TGIF

~ Dad came home from the hospital today. Not sure why they kept him this time, except to give us a vacation from his shenanigans!

~ The house is a mess and I need to spend the weekend cleaning it.

~ I have nothing done for Thanksgiving, and I'm not celebrating Christmas this year.

~ This is going to be the first election stress free weekend. I need to find a good movie to watch tomorrow night!

~ I miss Doctor Who, but the thought of Cybermen being a huge part of the next series makes me a little nauseous. They need to come up with something different.

~ I need to rewatch this week's episode of The Neighbors, as I fell asleep through it on Wednesday.

Republicans and Other Terrifying Things

Bilbo sent a letter to the Republican Party via his blog, and I have a few things I'd like to say as well.

Dear GOP,

I guess the O in GOP really does stand for "old."

I'm going to solve some problems for you, actually most informed citizens know this already, but I'm going to remind you, and some of this may even go against the party I belong too.

Bush tax cuts...let them expire. These are cuts to Social Security. A bad move on W's part to begin with. You don't take funds away from something that you are killing.

Secondly, the wage cap on SS that kicks in at somewhere around $100,000.00, yeah, well that needs to go. As long as you are collecting a check, you should pay into the program. It helps everyone.

There are other ways to cut spending besides cutting necessary programs. You don't cut things that help other Americans. What you might consider is starting to write laws that are only laws, bills etc that don't have fillers about funding for bug research or some other stupid thing. You don't cut education, because that is just stupid. If you want to be innovative and move the country forward, you need smart people creating things.

You've got to stop insulting the intelligence of the American people. (An FYI that's women, latinos, blacks etc) You've also got to stop foisting your religious beliefs on the rest of the world. We were a country that is founded on religious freedom. That means accepting the beliefs of Hindus, Muslims, Christians, Wiccans and even Atheists. Everyone has a right to their beliefs.

Maybe when you move into the 21st century, people will accept you. It would help if you got rid of people like Sarah Palin, Michelle Bachman and Paul Ryan too.

Now get to work and stop undermining the president, it makes you look like a bunch of grade school kids.

Nothing Like Sore Losers

I'm sick of apologizing for my 60 year old brother who is unfortunately one of those republicans that needs to have their head pulled from their ass.

I've apologized to family and friends because of his tirades against Obama this year.

Apparently all who cast a vote for the President are lazy.

Well F-you my dear brother. You are just as bad as Romney in making at 47% statement, and at least Romney, conceded with grace and dignity. I may not have liked him or voted for him, but at least he came across then as a gentlemen. It is a shame, the same cannot be said for you.

Oh and I have to say, I was so happy OH went blue!

Annoying Political Thing

I saw a picture of Bill Clinton and Barack Obama today on Facebook, and some idjit made a comment that these two men were responsible for the deaths of thousands of babies.

This is where I want to stand up and punch people.

Pro Choice does not mean pro abortion. Just as in a perfect world Pro Life would mean life for all things, not just unborn babies.

I'm sure neither man wants to see women having abortions for shits and giggles.

I can't begin to express the anger I feel at people that think that a women raped doesn't deserve the right to terminate the pregnancy or that a mother who might not survive wouldn't have that opportunity if abortions weren't something that could be medically provided to them.

I don't believe abortion should be used as a form of birth control, but there are several instances where it is necessary.

And idjits, women don't wake up and decide to have unprotected sex just so they can have a gov't funded abortion.

And if you are so Pro Life, why are you also Pro Gun. Pro Life should mean anti-death penalty too you know. (And anti-killing period)

Respect ALL LIFE, not just one area.

Oh and what of all the service men that were killed overseas in 2 wars that we didn't necessarily have to fight?

Another Weekend Gone

This was a three day weekend for me.

I should feel rested, right?

No. I don't.

I feel like I've been pulled at both ends.

I'm more tired today than I was on Friday morning.

How is that fair?

And the political ads aren't helping. They are filling me with rage. I can't take another one. Why is there no rock I could hide under until Wednesday?

Its giving me a headache the size of Texas.

Too Soon

Yesterday I went to Giant Eagle and they were piping Christmas music through the store.

WTF

November 2?

That is so not right.

It is beyond wrong in fact.

However today took things a little too far.

I watched my first Christmas movie on the Hallmark Channel.

Yup, you read that right, the first Christmas movie of the year, Christmas Song, on Hallmark.

They couldn't wait a few more weeks. Nope, that would be too easy and keep us from going totally mad before Thanksgiving.

On the plus side, the movie was cute, but not cute enough that it couldn't have waited a few more weeks.

Why don't they just start pushing the holiday at Labor Day or even July 4th!

I guess the point is to be sick of Christmas before it even gets here, right?

I have a doctor's appointment in the afternoon.

Not looking forward to any of it.

Especially not the stepping on the scale part of it.

I've tried hard to get the scale to drop.

However, dealing with the everyday insanity of taking care of my parents makes it very difficult not to eat.

I'm just going to cry when I go into the office.

It is cold, wet and rainy.

I'm not anywhere near the ocean and we are feeling the effects of this stupid late season hurricane.

On the plus side, at least for us, the power is still on. Thank God for that, since Dad is on oxygen.

I just want this storm to be over, as I'm sure millions of people on the east coast do.

I also want to sleep.

All Kinds Of Stuff & Nonsense

~ Made Cream Cheese Oreo Cookies yesterday. Followed the recipe from the Crumbs & Chaos site, but man the recipe needed tweaking. Just an FYI for anyone that decides to try these cookies, which are absolutely yummy. You don't need to crush 13 Oreos. That's a blatant waste of cookies and is criminal. Half of that and you're fine.

~ Created a blog for my kitty pictures etc. The Crazy Cat Lady's Cats.

~ Watched way too many episodes of Roseanne. They were playing the Halloween epis this weekend. I'm still trying to figure out why that had George Clooney cast as Jackie's ex-boyfriend/boyfriend. Like a guy that looks like that would date Jackie! Yea right!

~ Better organized..well not organized, arranged my books that I keep in my ITSO cubes. Not a fun task.

Rant-A-Rooni-Dooni

I got my tire today. $137 total. The amount of garbage added to this total is enough to make me scream. The actual tire was only about $105. $15 for labor to mount and dismount etc. It is all the fees and added crap along with taxes that make this number so damn high. Pardon me while I scream. I wouldn't want to do that so badly if the tire I replaced hadn't been nearly new. I bought them in the spring. So right now, with all the other shit I'm dealing with...I have this expense...and that's not even the wiper transmission that I have to have repaired before it rains! I hate cars!

It Can't Get Much Worse

I blew a tire yesterday somewhere. I'm riding on the donut until tomorrow afternoon.

This is a debate.

People are going to call other people liars or something of the equivalent. It isn't a big deal. That's what politics are all about.

That's the kind of mentality that's out there these days and its frightening.

The days of enlightened men and women hoping to better our country are long past.

I can't watch the debates because they make me want to hurl things at the TV.

The ads make me want to hurl things at the TV.

If there was a way I could watch all my shows streaming on the internet, without losing the last shred of my sanity I would do it. Sadly with my crazy ass internet, that isn't happening.

So instead, I'll scream obscenities at the TV every time a political ad comes on, and hope the next 20 ish days will pass by quickly.

Cos, I can't take much more of this!!!

Something I learned today

I went to the dentist for a cleaning today. It was one of the most painful cleanings ever! However my dentist gave me a bit of info.

1. 4 out of 5 dentists surveyed means...4 out of 5 dentists except samples from the company.

2. The original Listerine or the generic equivalent works better to correct or prevent gum disease than any other mouth wash or prescription.

3. It seems that pharmaceutical companies pay their pharmacists for each flu shot they give. There are sales quotes on shots? WTF!

I understand that children ARE NOT raised properly these days. Most kids don't know what the word RESPECT means. I see it all the time.

I also know that everyone says stupid things or you open your mouth and the wrong words fall out. It happens to everyone regardless of what political party you belong to.

However, I'm sick of these Bible toting asshats that think they know everything or know what God wants.

This idiot also misses out on the part of the Bible where..and I do believe it was JESUS that said, "He who is without sin, cast the first stone."

Just as most of them miss out on the "Love your neighbor as yourself."

Now, before I anger people because I'm kinda irked at the Bible being tossed around like this. I believe that religion is a good thing. When it makes you a better person.

People like Charlie Fuqua and that asshat Todd Akin who seems to think women's bodies can shut down and not get pregnant when raped, have let religion warp their minds!

Uh. Seriously. To both of you.

If you don't have brains...which you obviously don't have, you shouldn't be running our government.

And while I'm on a tanget. One of the candidates in PA runs on this platform. Pro-Life, Pro-Family, Pro-Gun.

All I can say to that tard is..

And seriously...please don't stone your kids, discipline them properly and remember your child isn't perfect and neither is anyone else's.

Naughty Dottie came home today without having her surgery.

Why?

Silly little kitty had a flea allergy and had to be treated.

Apparently the doc thought it would be best to curb the allergy problem rather than spay her.

Oye!

So that cost me $102 bucks...and the cat isn't spayed yet..nor could she have her shots because the steroids affect the immune system and the shots are live viruses.

Double Oye...

So she gets to go in late Nov for her spay.

I used to think I put Dr Stevenson's grandkids through school, now I'm going help Dr Means too. ARGH!

I'd rant about vet care being worse than people care..but I'm too tired.

Vet Day

One of my last two little girls went off to the vet today to be spayed. This is the first time the new veterinarian will be taking care of one of my animals, and frankly, I miss my old farm vet.

First...I'm offered the chance to add $65.00 to my bill for pre anesthetic blood wook.

And then...this vet performs surgeries on Wednesday but you can't pick your pet up until Thursday morning at the earliest.

I had to drop my kitty off tonight because I can't get there in the am because I ....erm ...work? Seriously vets, why would you do this? Don't most people WORK?

Now the old vet, who is still performing surgeries at the practice on a limited basis, had you drop of the kitty one day, and pick up the day of the surgery in the afternoon.

My kitty is going to be gone from me for 2 whole days.

Yes, I realize I have plenty more to love while she's at the vet's, but still. TWO DAYS!

Just When Things Start To Look Up

I had tonight all planned out. Things were going to be relaxing. I was going to read.

Then it happened.

My sister and my nephew were in a car accident. They were broadsided.

Thankfully no one was hurt, well no one except the poor car which is really discombobulated. That sent the whole night into a tail spin.

Nerves are now on edge...

I'm just glad everyone was ok.

Cleaning Out The Closets

I'm going through my closets now and getting rid of stuff I haven't worn and stuff that just doesn't fit.

Damn fat!

I hate doing this, but its that time again.

Time to try to create space.

I'm never very good at that.

I have one dress that I bought ages ago...a cream colored crocheted dress. Its still beautiful. There isn't any way it is going to fit me again, but I just can't get rid of it. It is sad.

Maybe it is because I only wore it one time.

Whatever, when I started tossing old clothes, that dress was staring me in the face...now I feel bad.

This could be the reason I only clean out closets once or twice a year.

Watching Sarah Jane Adventures

I haven't tried watching this show since Elisabeth Sladen passed away last year. But today I was going to the gym and I was fearful of taking the Nook Color, after what happened with my Nook First Gen.

I don't want any more calamities with electronics. I simply can't afford it.

So I loaded up my zen with a few tv episodes for viewing when I was at the YMCA.

I never realized how sad it would watching them now, especially when she bid farewell to The Brigadier.

It is bad enough when they kill off characters on the show, but when the main character dies in real life that makes viewing even more bittersweet.

Elisabeth Sladen, you were truly one of the best companions The Doctor has had over its...49 (almost 50) years on our TV screens.

Rejoice!

Missing My Nook

I really loved my old Nook First Generation. I'm getting used to using the Nook Color which is essentially a tablet.

I don't get the big deal with these things.

I don't really like it for reading all that much. I liked the basic ereader because it looked more like the printed page, and yes, I prefer books to the ereader. (But I can have so many more on the Nook than I can in my house!)

Hopefully my Simple Touch will arrive soon, before I lose my mind!

I wish they didn't phase out electronics so quickly! Everything is obsolete two seconds after you buy it. Hell, computers are obsolete before you get them out of the dang box.

Apparently we must all be made of money, because we have to toss the old and get the new. Seriously? Iphone 5? No thank you. I can't even afford a smartphone anymore.

And this rant was brought to you by the Nook First Gen that is sitting on my desk with a broken screen. Grrrr

Let's Talk About Health Care

Most people don't think about this until they are sick or old.

I'm paying my parents bills and let me tell you there are some things about health care that suck.

Coinsurance...you know for those treatments that cost a lot....like chemo and or those fucking Procrit shots my dad takes every other week...oh and his breathing treatments.

Let me tell you how the hospital works.

Each time you go to Mon Valley Hospital they issue you a new account number. They do this also when you go to the Oncology/Hematologists. Procrit shots avg about 4000.00 a pop. Thanks to my dad's insurance they are only $40.00 to $80.00 depending on the dose. But those add up. And with everyone's regular prescriptions an extra $122 to $162 a month make things a little stiff.

We're going to be eating ramen a lot in the next few months I think. And my credit card is totally broken.
