Everywhere I go, this book has been being pushed. It is called The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern.
Here's the blurb that goes with the book: There are no grand announcements when Le Cirque des Rêves comes to town. It arrives without warning, its alluring black and white striped tents open for business only when darkness falls. For it is the circus of dreams, filled with acts of enchantment. But there is nothing fanciful about the game magicians Celia and Marco have been training to play since they were children. Both protégés of cruelly competitive men with extraordinary powers, they were groomed to participate in a fierce competition in which, unbeknownst to them, only one can be left standing. Even as they tumble headfirst into love—a deep magical love that makes lights flicker and the room grow warmer when they so much as touch hands—the deadly match must play out. And what of their calculating masters? The fates of everyone, including daring performers and captivated patrons, hang in the balance, as precariously as the death-defying acrobats soaring overhead.
“Debut author [Erin] Morgenstern doesn’t miss a beat in this smashing tale of greed, fate, and love” (Publishers Weekly, starred review). The Night Circus is nothing less than sensational and will hold readers spellbound to the shocking last “act”….

I'm so getting this book next month from BOMC2, assuming I can wait that long!

I guess black and white stripes can be alluring as long as they're verticle.
I want this book too! :)
I am reading this right now as a download from iBooks. It's a tremendous story, with superb descriptive writing and a gripping plot. VERY highly recommended. In the same class as (if much shorter than) Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell, by Suzanna Clarke.
