RIP Davy Jones

This just doesn't feel right to me.

Davy Jones, gone.

I couldn't believe it when I got the text from my nephew. Then within minutes more texts and messages.

Not my Davy.

The Davy I've loved since I was 5 years old. The Monkee, who sang all my favorite songs. Gone, at age 66.

My heart is broken.

My sympathies go out to his family.

He definitely will be missed.

Feeling Anti-Social

I'm really not in the mood for people.

If there was a way I could retreat to a deserted island ...or better yet, a desserted island, I'd be happy.

I just want to be left alone.

The only problem is that no matter how ant-social I feel, I have to deal with people.

Blech!

I guess I'm just cranky.

Everyday it is the same ole, same ole and nothing gets better. It just gets worse.

The only thing I look forward to anymore is sleeping.

Things I've Accomplished This Weekend

~ Did some cleaning in the dining room, so that some old furniture can be taken out to the trash.

~ Vacuuming: That equals blergh in my book.

~ Grocery shopping, though I'm pretty sure there still isn't anything to eat in the house. How the hell does that happen?

~ Did some reading but didn't finish a darn book.

~ Made chicken paprikash for the first time without any help and no one died!

~ Actually got to the gym.

~ Paid some bills.

~ Went to church...though I have to say I got little out of it this weekend.

A Monster Went And Ate My Red 2

I was going to bitch and moan like I usually do, but I went to Youtube and started watching videos.

I groaned at the new Madonna, which sucks pretty bad.

I cried at George Harrison's Any Road.

Then I searched for Elvis Costello and I found this:

My day was made.

I'm sure his twins are shaking their little heads at Daddy's bad fashion sense and those odd faces he made, but who cares! He's freaking singing with Elmo!

Top 5 On Friday

Top 5 ways to survive without your mp3 player

1. Listen to the radio, however painful that might be. (In the Pittsburgh market you have a choice between oldies and country with very little that is listenable in between)

2. See if your CD player works. Oh wait, I don't have one of those anymore. Damn!

3. Watch videos on YouTube.

4. Listen to Pandora.

5. Take a chill pill and read a book.

Too Tired To Post

I'm really looking forward to tomorrow night. I should be able to sleep just a little bit longer, as opposed to having to wake up an extra half hour earlier so I can take my sister to work.

She got her son's car back for a half hour or so and it promptly started acting up again. The issue with her car is still to be determined, so I'm stuck driving her to work in the am.

The only plus: Sheetz breakfast.

The verdict is still out on whether or not that is truly worth it.

But hey, maybe I'll get a 6 pack of beer when this is all said and done.

Remember: God is great, beer is good and people are crazy

Wednesday, February 22, 2012

Zzzzz

I have to be up at 5 a.m. tomorrow.

Can I get a Blech for that?

My sister's car is broken AGAIN, and I have to take her to work.

Thankfully it is just for tomorrow and thankfully that means that I get to stop at Sheetz for breakfast. Woo to the hoo!

Sheetz coffee and breakfast = yum

So there is that.

I'm still not happy about being awake an extra half hour early so I can get my stuff down and take her butt to work.

Randomosity

~ Will someone please tell me a good reason why they'd vote for Rick Santorum? Truly! Of all the Republican candidates, he's the wingnuttiest of them all.

~ Is anyone else totally terrified of what the results of this election may be?

~ Again, sick of hearing about Whitney. She was a talented lady, gone too soon, but ENOUGH already. Nothing is bringing her back.

~ Sometimes I wish they'd raise the price of something rather than shrink the amount of the item in the bag/box, you know stuff like pet food, pasta.

~ Gas prices to hit $5.00? OMGWTF...my couch is comfy. Cos with gas that high, I'll hardly be able to afford to drive to WORK!!!!

~ Firefox is the most evil browser EVER.

Nothing A Little Coffee Can't Cure

I'm addicted to the Cafe Mocha at McDonald's. (And chicken McBites).

I'm really a cheap date. Buy me a cheap coffee and I'm a happy camper.

How sad is that?

OK, if you toss in a cheap book and some Godiva chocolate then I'm probably yours.

Yup...I can easily be made happy.

Now someone give me a cup of good joe and a book and cancel work for the next 2 months...but don't cancel the paycheck!

LOL!

It has been a rough week and I think I need a vacation from my life. Mind you, my life is something a little coffee CAN'T cure.

Book Series I Plan to Finish in 2012!

1. The Hannah Swenson Mysteries By Joanne Fluke

There are fifteen of these. I've read two and am about to start at third. Tis a shame I'm reading these way out of order!

I love the series and I really love the recipes in each.

2. The Parasol Protectorate

There are five books in this series, and I've heard such great things about it.

Must read!

Must read!

Actually I have them on my Nook, it is just a matter of starting them!

3.  Sookie Stackhouse

Yeah, I know. I'm one of the few people that haven't read at least one of this series. The sad part is that I own all of the books.

My TBR pile is totally out of control, as you may well be guessing right now

Geeze, I think there are 12 books here..or more.

ARGH!

4. Twilight

Yeah..I need to read Eclipse and Breaking Dawn, so I can get this series out of my life for good.

I'm treating this series like voting. If you don't do it/read it, you can't bitch about it.

And bitching about Twilight is such fun!

5.  The Pink Carnation Series

Regency period England and mysteries!

That is a perfect combination in my book!

So this is definitely a series I hope to get through this year.!

What series made you list?

Further Dad Updates

~ Stress test went well today, though they we late taking him down.

~ Dad fell asleep on the imaging board both times. He was snoring. It was a hoot.

~ If all is well, he may be coming home tomorrow, but we have to really watch his weight closely for signs of fluid retention. (And he doesn't retain water in the normal places.)

So once again, we dodged a bullet. We probably could have really dodged one, if he would have let me take him to the ER after his doctor's appointment on Wednesday, we could have saved him a ride on the ambulance. However, I really think he enjoys those!

Fingers crossed the that stress test results are ok.

Top 5 songs by Whitney Houston

1. How Will I Know: This song was my absolute favorite when I was in grade school. So much fun to dance too.

2. I Wanna Dance With Somebody: Again, another super fun song. It also proved that Whitney is one of the only women of color that can't dance!

3. So Emotional - I want to sing along even when I just see the title!

4. The Greatest Love Of All: Most BEAUTIFUL SONG EVER! Everyone needs to forget I Will Always Love You and listen to this one.

5. Didn't We Almost Have It All: Just a beautiful song.

R.I.P. Whitney. Another voice silenced too soon for senseless reasons.

Prayers Needed

Dad has a lot of fluid in his lungs.

Please keep him in your prayers.

His spirits are good, but breathing is getting harder.

Not sure what to think, except that I'm terribly afraid right now.

Wednesday, February 15, 2012

Dad Stuff

~ Blood count down, has to go back to the Dr next Wednesday.

~ Lungs aren't sounding good, got a Zpak in case of infection.

~ Had to walk too much today...thus making other things not so good.

Keep dad in your prayers..if I'm not around check my facebook for updates

Happy Valentine's Day!

I'll celebrate by posting one of the Beatles' best love songs.

May your day be full of love

Overkill

OK, I've had enough of Whitney Houston already.

She's dead.

Nothing is going to bring her back.

Yet all the media keeps doing is feeding us...no information. The autopsy was just done. Let her family grieve. She was a hot mess. We all know that. Let her rest in peace.

Another thing I'm sick of hearing about.

Has Duchess Catherine had a miscarriage!

Yikes, the woman has never announced she was pregnant and they have her miscarrying.

It is a horrible horrible thing that the media does. It makes you wonder if being a celebrity would really be worth it.

RIP Whitney Houston

I have to say, when I logged into facebook and saw all the posts, I thought it was a hoax, like the one that went around awhile back on Cher and Bon Jovi.

I trolled the net for a few minutes and I found out it was true.

Now I'm not a huge fan of Whitney. When she covered Dolly Parton's I Will Always Love You, I cringed. Too much warbling for my taste, but she did some fantastic songs that were really part of my childhood, like How Will I Know, I Wanna Dance With Somebody and So Emotional.

I send my deepest sympathies out to her family at this time. She was a mother and a daughter, and I'm sure there are lots of broken hearts today.

Perhaps the song we can best associate by Whitney is this one:

Some Random Thoughts

~ Why would anyone vote for Rick Santorum? Ewwww! PA didn't want him as a senator, so now he thinks he should be president. If he gets the nomination..I'm singing O Canada!

~The New England Patriots are a bunch of sore losers and so are their wives...or at least one wife!

~ Have I mentioned Madonna's new song SUCKS!

~ Adobe Digital Editions is annoying, but that's the only way to get library ebooks to my nook, so I guess I'll deal with it.

~ I hate nights with 5 hours of must see TV. I also hate that The Tudors are up against everything I like. I'm never going to get to see this show unless I get netflix. God forbid BBC America do a Tudors marathon on the weekend. That would bring me infinite joy!

~ Hot In Cleveland is so pathetic, but I love it for Betty White. Wish they'd keep up with The Ex's that was TVLand's best sitcom so far.

~ This weekend the temps aren't supposed to get out of the 20s. Can you say...let's get lots of blankets out!

Madonna = Meh

I finally got around to watching Madonna's half time performance.

Uh...erm...

You know Madonna is getting old when she no longer parades around in a tin cupped bra.

I just expected something more cutting edge.

Or at least good.

It looked over the top, but it was boring, and her new song is just freaking lousy. Other than the track that won the Globe for best song from a film, I haven't liked a Madonna song since Music and that was many many moons ago.

I wish they could have found some more amusing performers, other than McCartney and the Stones, I've found these shows to be really dull.

Depression, I Has It

I've determined that everything in my life gets fucked up.

I can truly understand why people have suicidal thoughts. They are people like me. Everything I touch gets fucked up.

That's how my life is and how it always will be.

Even when I try to get things done right, they get screwed up.

Right now I just want to go hide under a rock for 4 or 5 years...

I Love My Library

I'm so happy. I got my first ebook from the library today! Granted the selection is pretty slim at Waggin which stants for Washington and Greene Greater Information Network, but I found a few things I liked to put holds on, and one of them came available today!

Woo hoo!

Oh and the library has a whole cozy-mystery section!!

So needless to say I came home with two books because I couldn't resist

Oh and library receipts make perfect bookmarks!

Yes, my friends, I am that easily amused!

I've Got My Library Card!

I'm so excited to have my library card again. I really don't know how mine disappeared but it did. So I've got a shiny new white card.  I even broke the new card in.  I took our The Queen's Fool by Phillipa Gregory.

The Queen's Fool is one of the Phillipa Gregory books that I don't have sitting on my shelf!  OMG! I know!

Plus I was surprised that we have 4 weeks to read the book. I remember when the loan period was only 2 weeks for old books and 1 week for new releases!

Mind you, I'll finish this a few days after I start it. I'm a quick reader.

Now to figure out how the library works their ebook program!

Life Updates

My life is boring...and so are my updates.

~ Dad's blood count was low again, 10.1 so he had to get another one of those $3,000.00 shots! Not looking forward to the bill.

~ I'm starting to hate Chinese food. We seem to have a standing order at Unique China. Sweet and Sour Chicken, Hot and Tangy Beef and Pork Lo Mein. Blech! I want something different, but if I try to change it up, at least one person whines!

~ I long to relax, but sadly that just doesn't seem to be something that can happen. I'm always running around, and I never seem to be getting anywhere.

~ Still can't find the damn library card.

On a happy note...I've got some awesome books for free as long as I review them! Woot!
