New CD Player

I went to Macy's today, even though they are the spawn of Satan's department store in search of the mini cd player that I fell in love with a few weeks back.

I wanted a CD player for the room I sleep in because sometimes I want to play a CD rather than the radio before I go to bed. I knew they had one the last time I was there and it was about $50 bucks. I was cool with that as I had a coupon that would take 15% off that price.

Surprise surprise surprise.

They had two when I got there and both were under $50 dollars before the coupon.

Yipee!

I got a cute CD player for $36 and I think I can even plug my turntable into it!

Double woot!

Mind you the sound isn't as good as the AIWA's but that was a $500 dollar system at the time. And if I'm spending that kind of money anymore it will be on a new computer, or camera or Zen Micro (preferrably a 20 GB, like I need that).

Now I just have to clean up the area around my new toy. That should keep me busy for awhile.

Halloween Playlist

This year I decided to use songs with a "haunted" feel to them. Oh and for The Moody Blues fans out there, no I didn't put Haunted on there. Haunted is just to pretty and peppy to be a Halloween song and my first Halloween mix had The Other Side Of Life on it, so The Moodies got the boot from this holiday mix.

Here's the playlist.

Loreena McKennitt - All Soul's Day
Daughter Darling - Voodoo Games
Duncan Sheik - A Body Goes Down
The Phantom Chords - After The Light Goes Out
Sleepthief w/Caroline Lavelle - Nightjar
Arcadia - Keep Me In The Dark
Oingo Boingo - Skin
Siouxsie And The Banshees - Fall From Grace
Terami Hirsch - Little Light (Halo Mix)
Pink Floyd - On The Turning Away
Elvis Costello - Weird Nightmare
Annie Lennox - Love Song For A Vampire
Heather Dale - Mordred's Lullaby
Midnight Syndicate - Vampyre
Danny Elfman - Sleepy Hollow (Main Titles)

The last two tracks are instrumentals, but gorgeous instrumentals.

Download

This is a zip file of all the songs. If you'd like any of the tracks individually let me know in a comment with your email and I'll send them to you, via YouSendIt or Sendspace.

Top 5 On Friday - Week 91

From the chicks @ Music Memoirs...of which I am one. This is my meme, so I've got to do it!

Top 5 song lyrics that best describe you

To hold on fast to dreams that last no longer than a smile
Justin Hayward - It's Not On

That line is so me. I try to grab onto those fleeting impossible things. I think that's why I always feel so let down by things. I try to grasp the impossible way too often

I never was too hip. I never caught the ride
Oingo Boingo - On The Outside

That's me. I'm the loner that never seemed to fit in. I was never totally preppy or totally nerdy. I was on this level that most people didn't see.

You're not the girl next-door or a girl from France
Or the cigarette-girl in the sizzle hot-pants
All the words of love seem cruel and crass
When you're tough and transparent as armoured glass
You're everywhere girl in an everyday mess
Who'll pay for the Crimes of Paris

Elvis Costello & The Attractions - Crimes Of Paris

I'm sick of paying for the crimes of Paris damn it! Again, this seems so like me. I'm not the kind of girl that stands out. I don't fit the usual labels. I'm just and everywhere girl in and everyday mess.

You're out of control--and you want the world to love you
Or maybe you just want a chance to let them know
That you live and breathe and suffer
And your back is in the corner and you've got nowhere to go

Oingo Boingo - Out Of Control

I've always felt that this song belonged on the soundtrack to my life. I'm always looking for attention but my message never seems to get through.

He's a real nowhere man
Sitting in his nowhere land
Making all his nowhere plans for nobody

Doesn't have a point of view
Knows not where he's going to
Isn't he a bit like you and me?

The Beatles - Nowhere Man

I'm always making plans for things that I'm never likely to do. And if my hamlet of Charleroi on Mon isn't nowhere land, I don't know what is.

Ah The Joys Of Blogger

I spent my first hour awake trying to get my Thursday Thirteen to publish. I'm posting this to taunt blogger into publishing.

Like that's going to happen.

What pisses me off is that if you go to the Blogger Status page, you will see nothing.

So I'm the only one out there that can't publish right now?

I don't believe that for a minute.

So come on blogger make a liar out of me. Publish this damn post before I blow a gasket.

Thursday Thirteen

Thirteen things I like to do on a rainy day

1. Curl up with a good book.

I've been reading Christopher Golden's vampire series. This is the 2nd of 3 books and it's excellent.

2. Work on mix CDs. I plan to start work on my Halloween playlist tonight. (I'll post it here when I finish)

3. Upload photos to my flickr account. I've almost finished uploading the good shots from last years Moody Blues show in NJ. I've still got Gary Puckett and Davy Jones from this year. Plus more shots from NJ, Hershey and Erie that I've never posted anywhere.

4. Clean out closets. It's easier to get rid of things and clean when there's nothing else to do because its raining.

5. Organize my music on my Zen Micro. At the end of October my pink Zen will become the Christmas Mp3 player. I'm going to put all my Christmas tunes on it for the holiday season. Yeah, I'm a nut.

6. Troll LaLa.com for new CDs. Apparently no one has anything on my want list right now. And I've got at least 2 CDs coming to me. I need to broaden my musical horizons apparently. Damn.

7. Organize my computer. When I get a cleaning bug it extends to the files on my computer as well. I really would like to get some extra space on this machine.

8. Spend a few hours watching video clips on You Tube. That site is the best time waster created!

9. Antagonize my cat. OK, play with my cat. But Oogie is so easy to antagonize, mostly because his goal in life is to antagonize me. He's so darn rotten. And he's such a cutie

10. Read mum's cookbooks to see if I can find any easy weekend meals. I only cook on Sat and Sun.

11. Visit everyone on my blogroll.

12. Get more than a half hour of exercise on the Healthwalker.

13. Sleep Sleep Sleep. (yeah right)

Get the Thursday Thirteen code here!

Hump Day Hotties

We've reached mid-week again and the Hump Day Hunk Train is rolling through the station with a delivery of hunks to keep me going until Friday.

Let's see who's on board this week.

Looks like Davy Jones made the train. Woot! He's moved to the top of my to do list lately again. Lordy but he's lovely.

I didn't think Paul McCartney would hop on board, but maybe he just wanted to get away from the whole business of his divorce and matchmaking daughters. That's fine by me, I'll take good care of Macca. ~evil grins~

Yay, Peter Noone was on board too! That's a double woot there. I'm so stoked about meeting him in two weeks. I can't believe my fanclub membership actually paid off! I get to go to a meet and greet! Woohoo!

And as always the Jays made the hunk train. I guess they know how much I miss them.

BTW I'm slowly getting all my concert photos posted over at my flickr account. It's going to take awhile but last night I upped some more from The Borgata last year.

Clicky here to see more concert hunks.

I Just Want To Get Some Sleep

I swear my bedtime is getting later and later again. It's not that I have any reason for staying up. Last night I did, but after much thought I decided that watching Elvis Costello on Lettermen was not worth losing any amount of sleep over. I don't really care to hear him sing or talk about his preparations for the baby Krallstellolings.

Nope.

That should mean I should be in bed at a reasonable hour, right?

Nope.

I decided at 10 o'clock to go looking for my membership card from the Peter Noone fanclub. Why? Not because its necessary, but because I wanted to find it. There's a "Do" aka a "Meet & Greet" at Uniontown on the 14th of Oct before the show and I wanted to have it though I don't need it.

One would think that the prospect of getting a hug from Dr. NoOne or the Reverend Sung Long Noone or Norman or Herman or Uncle Petey or whatever Peter Noone is going by today would bring me great joy and peaceful sleep.

Nope!

After that I did try to go to bed, but Purrbee the nice little dog was scratching too much, so at 20 after 11 he got a bath.

Then I finally went to bed, which is why I'm so damn tired right now and wish I could crawl back into bed for the few hours of sleep I missed because I was doing stupid stuff instead of sleeping.

Random 10 - Week 72

I decided to do this music memoirs meme over here today.

10 songs that sum up your weekend...or were on your weekend playlist...and one picture that relates back. (oh, and if you feel like it, tell us why you picked the songs you did)

I spent a lot of time watching videos on You Tube so most of my playlist this weekend is a direct result of my brain rotting while appreciating musical goodness.

1. Manfred Mann - Ha Ha Says The Clown (Oye is this song fuqua'd up. But so fun too)
2. Manfred Mann - Fox On The Run (This just in: Mike D'abo was a hottie)
3. Mike D'abo - Handbags and Gladrags (Mike wrote this you know)
4. The Monkees - Daddy's Song (Davy in a white tux = THUD)
5. The Monkees - I'm A Believer (From one of the Mtv awards shows in 86! Oh that brought back memories!)
6. Cliff Richard - Lay All Your Love On Me (Mmmm Cliff shaking the famous tushie.)
7. The Monkees - Laugh (From Monkees A'la mode one of my favorite episodes that I don't have on tape anymore!)
8. Gary Puckett - Lady Willpower (On Ed Sullivan)
9. The Monkees - You and I (From the Justus video album)
10. Cliff Richard - Miss You Nights (scroll down to watch)

As for the picture...

Buddah has been feeling a lot better lately. Yay!

Nowhere Fast

That consists of how my weekend was. I got nowhere fast. Thankfully I managed not to buy the new CD player for my bedroom which is a good thing, considering I really don't need it however cheap it is.

I have burned copies of my Crosby Stills Nash & Young box for my sister, but other than that I've done next to nothing. I'm just not in the mood for anything. I'm not even in the mood for sitting around.

I'm antsy and bored.

Not a good combination.

It hardly seems worth my having the last 2 days off, especially as I've really done nothing with them except wait for rain that we never really got.

But them I've been told (usually by my mum) that you can't do something every weekend, so maybe this was one of my do nothing weekends. All I know is that I hate those. I always feel mopey and let down when one of them is finished.

I mean who really wants to look forward to going to work on Monday morning? I sure as hell don't, just because it's going to be one boring extension of the boring weekend.

Bleh!

I hope next weekend is better than this one.

Waiting For Rain

I've curbed my activities today thinking that the rain was coming. It's 7 o'clock now and though I've piddled around the house quite a bit, I haven't done much of anything and that annoys the hell out of me.

I've succeeded in ripping a few CDs to the hard drive. I've cleaned the bathroom. Oh and I did the Saturday morning laundry. It wouldn't be right if I did laundry on any other day. Oh and I have done it on Friday night a few times when I was going somewhere on Saturday and it just fubars the whole laundry system.

I've pulled out some CDs to get my Christmas CD collection organized for the Mix. Why? Yes, I know it's barely October, but I want to have the mix ready by the first or second week of Nov for burning and mailing. And it will take that long to pull it all together.

I mail out about 15 or more of these a year. And then I upload the playlist for my friends online that don't get the card...hey, it's an expensive project, but I do like sharing the Christmas tunage with everyone. Finding the artwork is the hardest part.

I would like to do a Halloweenish mix again this year. But I'd like to do a swap or something where I wasn't doing this just for me. So if anyone is up for a Halloween swap let me know. I'd gladly go through my stuff to make a CD to share.

The Most Thudworthy Song Ever

I am so in love with this song. I have no idea what it is about this song but it trumps all others when it comes to making me weak in the knees. No Moody Blues song can do that.

It helps that Sir Cliff makes me weak in the knees.

I'll probably be watching this video over and over again for another hour or two or twenty.

~sigh~

I love me some Cliff.

Top 5 On Friday - Week 90

From Music Memoirs

Top 5 albums you're glad that you bought this year (not necessarily new releases)

Gary Puckett & The Union Gap - Greatest Hits

If I hadn't bought this one in Hershey, Gary never would have had the chance to sign it. One day I'm going to get the rest of his albums.

Davy Jones - Just Me 2

This is the only one of Davy's solo CDs that I own. I'm glad I picked it up at the concert in July. I know now that I have to try to add more of his music to my collection.

Peter Cetera - You Just Gotta Love Christmas

I struggled with myself when it came to ordering this one. I had heard it was copyprotected. Guess what? It's not! It's also a really great Christmas CD. I just got it this week and I'm glad I did. Expect to hear Peter on this year's Christmas mix!

Diana Krall - From This Moment On

I decided to give Mrs. Krallstello my loyalty this year. I don't know why. I heard this one before my copy came to me in the mail, and it was a better pick than her hubby's The River In Reverse which I hate with a passion that cannot be described. I hate it even more than I hate North which was my least favorite EC album until now. At least North was a shot at a different sound. River is just uninspired and blech! At least Diana didn't disappoint.

Keri Noble - Red Wine Til Daylight

Ok, it's an EP but it's new music by Keri, who is one of my favorite female singer/songwriter/vocalists. It was only 12 bucks on her site and it's one of my favorite discs this year. I hope her new album comes out soon.

Anyone Order Hunks?

I know I did. I always order up a decent amount of hunk to be delivered on Wednesday mornings.

I wonder what The Hunk Truck has brought for me this week.

Ah look here it comes....

Ah a little wet Hugh Laurie! Just what the doctor ordered. I'll just get him out of those wet clothes so he doesn't have to get diagnosed with pneumonia anytime soon.

Awww my very favorite! It's Justin Hayward. And with his natural haircolor! (which you will notice ISN'T BLONDE!) He looks so warm in his furry coat. I think I'll just crawl up on his lap and take a nap. OK, that's the last thing on my mind, but I thought I'd keep my dirty thoughts to myself.

Oh it's an Elvis Costello. I don't know what to do with this one since his wife is expecting twins. It doesn't seem quite right to be lusting after him when there are two buns in the oven. PAH!

Yay! The Hunk Truck brought me Davy Jones! I've always wanted Davy. And this particular Davy....Mmmm Rrrrrroar!

Happy Hump Day!

Tell It To Me Tuesday

As if I don't do enough memes. I just discovered this one through Nat.

What are the best albums you believe most people have never heard?

1. Julia Fordham - East West

Beautiful lyrics and an equally beautiful voice. Her songs have appeared on several soundtracks but most people look at me oddly when I say I love her voice.

2 Glass Tiger - Simple Mission

Unless you're from Canada you probably haven't heard this album, Why? Because it was only released there. What a sad sorry shame. Glass Tiger was a true gem in world of 80's music. Infectious pop, great lyrics and a pretty cute bunch of guys. This was their last album before they split and it's definitely worth a listen.

3. John Lodge - Natural Avenue

Most people that like the Moody Blues have heard this album, but if you aren't a fan of the band this cute little gem has probably escaped your notice. The reissue that you can find now has the added single Street Cafe, which is really one of John's best cheesy silly songs. (silly weird lyrics being what he does best) From the original lineup of tracks Summer Breeze and the title track really stand out.

4. Peter Tork - Stranger Things Have Happened

This is one of Peter's solo ventures. He's truly the forgotten Monkee, yet he's a fine songwriter and musician. He was also the Monkee that didn't get very many songs, which is not quite fair, in the scheme of things. Peter has a distinctive voice and it's worth hearing. This album has a bit of an 80's tinge with one song that appeared on The Monkees Pool It album. It's great to hear it how Peter really wanted it done.

5. Terami Hirsch - Entropy29

Terami is an indie artist worth noticing, but she's not easy to find. I wouldn't have known of her had not someone on Livejournal uploaded her song Little Light. She has many albums to her credit but this one is my favorite. Check out her website and preview snippets from the album there. It's worth your time.

Yesterday Was A Bad Day

If you read my Livejournal you'll know that my oldest kitty is not doing too well right now. To look at him, you'd never guess that he wasn't doing well, but his back legs are failing him. We're not sure if he had a stroke or if he's going through a period of arthritis.

We've decided that he's not going to the vet, because he's not in any sort of pain. He's eating and getting to the bathroom when he needs to. I won't have him put down. I just can't do it. I want him to go when god's ready to take him, not a second before. Perhaps that selfish of me. If it is, so be it.

And if you want to know, I couldn't yank anyone's life support either. I don't want that kind of responsibility laying on my conscience. I would feel like a murderer and I couldn't live with myself. And don't say that it's just an animal either. Buddah, aka Little Shit, aka Poopy has been in my life for at least 14 years. He's more than just an animal, he's family. All of my animals are family.

I know the end is coming soon and the hurt is already starting. I love my little gimpy Buddah. He's the true Garfield of cats, all orange and round and lazy, but full of love for anyone who would hold or pet him.

Please keep my old boy in your thoughts. I'm not ready for him to go yet, and I don't think he's ready to go either, but it's in God's hands ultimately.
